I just picked up a 91 240sx hicas model for dirt cheap that pretty much only needed a new motor. I swapped in a rebuilt KA24de and had everything running fine shortly after. When I was driving it home from my friends shop I noticed a small powersteering leak from the hose off the pump nearest to the front of the car. I made quick work of replacing the hose with one off of the parts car I got the motor from. However the hardline that goes from the hose to the rack had to be removed from the rack so i could line up the compression fitting (i think thats what its called) with the hose. After that I couldnt get the hardline to thread back into the rack. I've tried undoing it from the hose and that didnt help and I've tried undoing the line next to it on the rack to give me more room and that seemed useless. I took it to a midas thats about a 1 mile away (I dont normally trust those places but it was the only place i could drive without worrying about burning up my powersteering pump) and after 5 minutes they gave up and said they think its stripped. I'm 100% sure its not stripped becuase I havent been able to get it to thread at all since I pulled it out. Theres a bracket on the crossmember that holds both lines going to the rack and i think if i got that off i could get the lines to go in but i cant figure out whats holding the bracket on. If anyone knows the best way to get these lines in or how to take off that bracket please help me out. Its so frustrating when it take longer to bolt one little thing up then it does to swap out a whole motor. Oh, and if there is anyone in St. louis that knows what they're doing i'll pay them $20 to fix it for me cause im so tired of messing with it.

That wouldn't be the first time I've seen that fitting get stripped. What you can try to do, is this. First get the line in the rack installed then go at the big bolt to the power steering. The hardline does have a flex section if it's the one I'm thinking about and will need some effort to get it around. If not, try loosening the bolt first, where only a few threads are holding the line in place then go at the rack line then tighten the big bolt.

You make it sound easy, the problem im having is that I cant reinstall the line into the rack. Once I do though, everything else will be a cinch

Yeah seriously, I'm assuming it's that same line that gave me trouble as well, the one that has that huge bolt that goes through the ps pump. You may want to check the threads on the rack if you're not sure if that's the one that stripped. Put some grease on the tap so the grease traps the metal shavings and take a die to the end of the ps line before reattempting.
