1991 240 LE, 180000 milesSup guys,

Just wondering what you guys think I should do. I've searched, and I've come to 2 split decisions: take the powersteering out and keep the rack empty, or just keep the rack full and remove everything. Also, when I take out the lines, what should I do with the pump? I need it to keep the belt tighten for the water pump. So do i have to keep the pump on there? Also, should the pump be filled with PS fluid when its only being used as a tensioner? Have you guys ever heard of a way to gut the internals on the pump to make it lighter and just be a tensioner???

2bn, not that your post helped me at all, but I'll answer your question. When a power steering system is subject to extreme steering like drifting requires (the steering wheel fully locked), the power steering fluid can build upto 2000 PSI. I dont care how strong you think your car is, that powersteering fluid built up to that level will cause leaks. So I'd rather just build some muscles than recurringly replace the power steering. Not to say that I'll have to fully lock the steering wheel for drifting, but I have had to do this before when my car unexpectedly hydroplaned on the freeway at about 60MPH and I had to react.

Florida, how's your manual setup like?
