Hello NICO!

When you run bigger wheels, in this case 20s, will it/can it cause the power steering to go out sooner than normal? Putting them on I noticed they are extremely heavy compared to stock. Does the increased weight strain the power steering or affect the engine/trans over time? They are chrome so they are even heaver than most might think. Haha yes I know most of you are chrome haters, but these look ok I promise!

My 2nd question is is for all the wheel/drop experts. The wheels are 20x8.5 with +40 offset with 235/35/20 tires. I am sick of that famous AC wheel gap and want to drop her a little with some tein or eibach lowering springs (can't afford coilovers yet :frown: ) I've read thread after thread and have learned a lot, but all I want to know is will it work and will it rub? Will I need to roll renders? :ohno:

I would love to post pictures for everyone to see and critique but I dont know how lol they are on my iphone how do I post them in a tread?

ANY help will of course be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Are you asking about the power steering because you are having a problem or just curious? Describe the problem if so?

Heavier wheels, along with wider/more tread will affect the feel of your steering, but I dont think it should cause anything to fail prematurely.

It is definitely harder to turn the wheel, nothing insane but surely noticeable. It is however starting to make subtle noises when I make sharp turns or max it out which I didn't use to do. Sounds like an electric servo, best way to describe it. But that will go away normally once things get warmed up MOST of the time.

Other than that is there any way to know whether lowering springs will cause any rubbing with my wheel set up? or a way to know how low you can go until problems may arise? Not looking to slam, just even things out and get rid of some gap. H&R, tein, & eibach all are reasonably around the same price as far as I know and claim to have the same drop? Once I find out I can drop 1.5 -2 inches without causing any problems I'm going to pull the trigger :yesnod

I was told that if I get 20's (245/35/20) and Teins that there will be no fitment problems.. I didn't ask about rubbing, but most likely some rubbing on bumps.

It almost looks like the rim will hit the side of the fender though in the rear if it were to hit any speed bumps or something. I will post pictures once I can find one (it's pouring outside right now so I cant take any).

You will be fine. That tire size gives you 26.48" total overall diameter and stock is 26.3". I run 26.72" on 8.5" width and +45, an extra 5mm for your +40 will sit better than mine.

Thank you both, I have no idea what i'm doing and I am learning as I go so your help is appreciated. Any personal preference on which spring to go with or are all 3 I mentioned above pretty legit. I see many threads about teins and Eibachs but never hear much about H&R? From what I hear they give the lowest drop out of the 3 :gotme leaning that way for some reason :gotme

Teins give the lowest drop, 2" all around.

I know after dropping any car you need to get it aligned, but is a camber kit necessary when using lowering springs?

Not necessary. If you want to get 100% back to factory spec you need it, but you dont need to be 100% back to factory spec.

Don't think Teins are available for the 2.5 models

well after a few hours of searching the forums I see that a good amount of people are running eibach and seem to enjoy them, at least for the 2.5 AC! Ordering today & hopefully will get them on in a few days i'm interested on how the car will sit with 20s.

By the way this forum is great! Lots of good support and information! :dblthumb:

Thanks
