Alright. I'm trying to fit a cooler of some sort on my power-steering system in my S-13. I am using the R33 X-member. I think that I have a solution picked out, but I'm interested in what everyone / anyone has. I cannot use the stock S-13 (Dohc) cooler loop because I'm using the R33 unit (and I do not want to bend the crap out of it.).

What I am thinking of using is a small power-steering cooler from a Jeep and various Dodge vans as the heat-exchanger, the ends from the S-13 loop, and some power steering (low pressure) lines with hose-clamps of some sort. The cooler has 5/16" ends as well. simple 2-pass with fins. Core dimensions are 6" long x 2" wide x overall length is 8.5". Run the hard-lines from the S-13 rack over the x-member, and then use the PS hose and interface the cooler then back up to the res like stock.

Again, interested anyones suggestions or solutions THEY found / used. I'm not 100% sure that I absolutely _MUST_ have a cooler, but I plan on doing 'spirited' driving and I know it is a good idea to have _something_.

I can clean up my thoughts tomorrow. I'm sleep deprived at the moment.. Thanks for listening !

Sounds fine to me... I'm sure the factory cooling loop does little to actually cool the p/s, especially when tracking the car. Really any cooler will work... I am actually using a small setrab unit(overkill).

This is a very old pic of the engine bay but you can clearly see the power steer cooler, just interupt the return line to the resevoir. the cooler is a auto skyline cooler and it cost me $10 aud from a wreckers.

URAS,

Thanks for the pic! I can't even find my cooler from my R33 half-cut :-\ but this helps me out -- what PS pump are you using? If it is stock, does it keep up with the increased volume and capacity? Just something I have been thinking about with increasing the line lengths and such.

Those coolers dont work half as good as the stack type coolers.

The car currentely uses a gtr pwr steer pump with the rear rotor vanes removed and the output plugged. I will fit a R34 gtt one in coming months but i need to get hold of a rb25 harmonic balancer.

Pumps (even the small SR) have no issues what so ever dealing with the extra volume.

Well, I was not sure if I even really needed a cooler, but since I plan on doing a lot of spirited driving and possibly an HPDE or two I figured that I should probably have _something_ Plus the price was right

+1 summit is titties, and its always nice having it right down the road.

they are great for these type of parts, see what they offer. Plus you can get any fittings you might need from them as well with the cooler.
