hello, this might be a dumb question, something i should know, but i don't know for sure.the power steering rack on my 89 240sx got a hole in it, don't ask me how... but i took the belt off and i kinda like the feeling more then with the P/S, could i re rout the lines from the pump directly to the reservoir and completely eliminate the pump. this way the rack is always lubricated. can this be done? or would the rack just not work. or wear out? if so is there anyway to convert the car to a manual steering? i like the feel of the road, over the floating steering wheel.

i looked for previous posts, on this but i didn't come up with anything.. if any one has an info it would be greatly appreciated.

If the race has a hole in it your inda screwed. In order to go manual steerting you need to run it wet. You need too fill the rack with fluif then plug / clamp it off. If you run it dry it will fail.

As far as the pump, just take it off the engine and get shorter belts.

maybe just taking the fuse out for the PS pump should work. I'm not sure though, but if the steering is floating around then that might be a bigger problem.

trust me i bypass my old 240 and the steering suck...try busting a u-turn in a one way street...by the way the enginebay look clean without the steering pump and only one belt to the alternator
