Power Steering bein Weird

So i have 89 hatch. it got a SR in it so the DOHC PS was swapped. when i drive it i have power steering but then if i let my foot off the gas and turn the power goes away. but if i give it gas the power steering is there.

i put AMSoil full synthetic ATF in it right after my turbo swap

It could be a weak pump. If you only have P/S when your on the gas, that means your spinning the pump faster which means it's working faster/harder. If that's the only time it's working, that should tell ya something. Does she make a winding sound (Not sure if you know what a bad P/S pump sounds like)?

actually my car isnt running around now again. i pulled the oil return like cause it was bent so i had to unbend and im lazy right now. i think ill try to fix it tonight. but if thats the case i'd have to replace the pump correct?

if so i know ya cant jsut walk up to a Napa or whatever to get one. how would i get a hold of a OEM part like this?

well to get an oem part you'd have to go to the dealer. something like that though, might not be carried anymore at the dealer. might be easier to find one from someone parting out.

Yea if it's a bad pump you have to replace it. As for finding an SR P/S pump, no idea. Best bet would to poke around online or try to get in contact with any shops that do SR swaps, they might be able to find one. I know HeavyThrottle.com (I think thats it) does SR swaps, their located in northern NY. Just make sure you don't have any crimped or bent P/S lines either.
