like the title says i am wondering if there is a way to speed up my ps on my 240. i am running the stock rb pump and the steering just seems to be slightly, not much really, sluggish. i never got to drive the car before i did the swap, i bought it with a blown up engine, but that is really irrelavant because every part in the steering is new, or at least new to the car. the rack is brand new and so are all of the lines, the pump and reservoir came on my swap and there are no leaks. just curious. thanks for any input. richie

Do you have the idle switch on the PS line hooked up??

The only thing you can do to speed up the pump is get a Larger Crank Pulley or get a Smaller PS Pulley..

Wouldn't reccomend speeding it up though, maybe you have bad seals in your pump if it is really that slow.

Unorthodox Racing made a Underdrive Crank pulley to slow down the PS and water pump on the Vipers because at track days they were being overworked at High RPM.

no need for the idle speed, the 240sx is way lighter than the skyline, there is no need to compensate.

check your dump pipe/downpipe, My guess is the steering column is rubbing against it..

If not that, possibly a bad pump.

well... i have plenty of clearance on the steering shaft. a whopping 6mm! the truth is that the steering works fine when not under a huge load in my opinion. if you guys get in your cars and turn the wheels as fast as you can to either side does it kind of bump up against the limitations of the power steering? there might be nothing wrong with it maybe i am asking too much, but a friend of mine has a stock 93 coupe that he drifts and i've driven it and it steers so much better than my car, you can just whip the wheel either direction as fast as you want, with no resistance. that's what i would like to get my steering to act like. and it is definitely not a idle problem it does it at all rpm's. is line length an issue on power steering? when i made my lines i shortened alot up it really cleaned up the engine compartment down lthere. i might just be retarded.

i'm just looking for other perspectives on a solution. maybe i need a new pump. i dont know.....

Have you checked the tension rods? Also, are your struts the stock ones one the car? When I first put the rb in my 240sx I had stock struts and it felt like the car had a slight delay in it when cornering hard. It was the extra weight resisting changing directions. Once I went to coil-overs I don't notice that anymore.

If the steering is sort of "bucking" as you turn, you should upgrade your tie-rods. I'm using spl parts z32 tie rods with the special tie rod ends.

Is your 240sx a super-hicas model? If not did you eliminate the pieces from the power steering pump that run the rear steering?

Only other stupid thing I can think of is to check your power steering belt I had one break on me and I didn't realize it till I went to turn a corner.
