Only the left side of the driver's seat will move forward and backward. The screw on the right side (nearest the console) that moves the seat in its track is not turning but the left side screw does turn so the electric motor is working. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

It looks like there is one motor for the forward/backward seat movement. There is a shaft that connects the motor to the right side (console side) screw. The shaft appears to be inside a plastic tube. Does that help any?

There is a bulliten for lack of operation on the adp equipped vehicle but it does not apply in this instance as the motor does work. 1 of 2 things is wrong. 1 the right track has a coin stuck in it[very common] you cant see it till you get the seat out of the car and flip it upside down. 2 the cable that turns the right gear snapped at the motor. have done a few of these. The parts from the TSB can be used to fix this incedent as well [its cheaper that way]

I got the seat out of the car and it was #2, the cable snapped at the motor. Can you help me with what I need to do now? Thanks.

You need to go to nissan and ask for the kit from the tsb regarding your model yr vehicle. Or you can email one of our dealer sponsers and see if they can get it for you, It will likely be cheaper that way. You could also see if a wrecking yard has the cable piece alone or the seat track assembly with the motor.

Let me know if the dealer gives you any flak about not knowing what the kit is. I will then pull the bulliten up on tuesday and get you the part #'s to order.

I talked to a dealer parts dept and they have the motor & gear assembly for $236. I guess I can't get just the wire cable that is broken. The service dept said they have to disassemble the seat to replace that assembly. I had wanted to do it myself but that sounds like a major undertaking with all the parts that are in that seat. Should I have the dealer do it or is there some way I can repair this?

GOOD LOOR, HOW BOUT I GIYA FITY CENT AND YOU LET ME TOUCH THE BOX.

Thats alot more then I thought the kit was. If it where my truck I would hit the wreaker and see if you can get the cable [peice between the motor and gear on the other side] then you can simply pop it in. As far as the dealer repairing it, I do that job with out even taking the seat out of the car. There are 4 14mm bolts holding the seat to the floor I take those out and lean the seat back, from there I pull the flap down near the back of the seat cushion[held up by sliding over a couple of very sharp bend hooks] After dropping the flap I can see the 2 rear 12mm seat cushion bolts. If you use the switch to raise the seat cushion up you can then see the 2 front 12mm seat cushion bolts. I undo those 4 bolts and lift the cushion up a bit so I can gain access to the 2 front phillips screws holing the front trim peice on I slide that out the way. At this point you can see all the nuts holding the worm gears and motor up. You need to remove the 2 front phillips screws on either side of the seat holding the trim on[ you do not need to completely remove these trim pieces] then loosn the 2 12 mm bolts obstructing 2 of the nuts holding the worm gears on. No need to take them out completley. There are 2 10mm bolts holding the worm gear runners to the track pedastal. remove those and the 3 nuts on each worm gear and motor mounts and all you need to replace will fall out. you simply swap in the new parts and bolt it back to gether. You do however need to make sure your runners are equally positioned or your track will not line up when you bolt it back to the floor.

This whole job takes about 20 to 30 mins to do. and you are not completly dissasembling the seat. All the wires attached to the seat cushion stay attached and plugged in except the actual motor your replacing. There are 2 or 3 connectors going into the floor from the seat I just leave them attached [ one may be an airbag connector If you absolutly must disconnect that connector [yellow] disconnect your battery for 10 mins before doing so and dont hook the battery back up till its all back together.

Wow! Thanks for the detailed instructions. I feel a lot more confident about fixing this thing now. I called several auto salvage yards and no one so far has the cable part. I was thinking about taking the one off the passenger side (since that seat rarely moves back and forth) and putting it on the driver's seat until I can find that part somewhere. Is that feasible? Thanks for all the help. This is a great forum!

You know I am not sure the right seat is the same. I have never had to repair that seat. I would think if its power it should be the same. If you can see the cable and they visually appear the same then they are the same.

I removed the cable from the passenger seat and installed it on the drivers seat - they are the same cable. Thanks again for the help..saved me about $500 parts and labor at the dealer. Now I can look for a cable to reinstall on the passenger seat.

Oops, when I connected the battery and started the engine, the airbag light came on and stayed on. I realized I had not reconnected the airbag connector on the back of the seat. I disconnected the battery again, waited 10 minutes, reconnected the airbag connector, reconnected the battery, and started the engine. Now the airbag light comes on and then starts flashing. Is there a way to clear the flashing light?

Only with consult[nissan scan tool]. I dont know what they will charge you to do this but explan to them what you did and that you triggered the light and would like to have them clear it from past memory. It will then go to historical memory and the light will go off.

That is the only method I know of for clearing the airbag light. I have seen the light cleared by disconnecting the battery over night on some vehicles. you could give that a try.
