I was reading a car mag at work today and it had an article about drifting. It listed the ways on how to start a drift and it said power oversteering along with some other ways that I forgot. What the he** is power oversteering? And can anyone explain the other ways to start a drift, cause I wanna learn how to do this.

WELL, in my focus, back when I had an uber still suspension and massive rear sway bar I would let off going into a corner a tad to fast and it would come around on its own, and it was a small counter steer away from recovery......

power oversteer, sounds to me like they mean using the gas pedal to overpower rear traction when entering the corner so the rear end of the car slides out of sync with the front....and you've got a drift.....

another way you could start a drift would be to let off the gas like I did in my focus, the rear tires would no longer be 'held' to the asphalt and they would once again slide out of sync with the front...

yet another would be using the emergency brake to lock up the rear wheels and then use the steering wheel to shift the rear of the car whatever direction you wanted it to slide......

there's some methods to get it sliding....I've never drifted a 240.....so getting it back is up to you, the times I have drifted RWD cars(Miatas, etc) I've always just countersteered and stayed in the gas...opposite lock goes a long way so ending a drift.

Power oversteer - aka POWER OVER. approacing a left turn, cut slightly right, then hard left (creating a situation of oversteer) while applying hard power to get the tail end out.. follow through with steaady power and easy countersteer.

or just Feint drift by itself which can be used on a FWD car and is commonly used in rallying

Left foot braking will also work to get the back of FWD cars out on wet roads (Parking lots, dont drift on public roads)

I have a 91 240, so the FWD techniques won't help me unless i drift my mom's car(jk). I gotta find me a big empty parking lot to try drifting.

all of the above will work for RWD, but clearly not all techniques will work for FWD.

Power oversteer isn't just used for drifting, I use it to keep traction in turns instead of understeering, works wonders. :)

Helps if you have a lot of power/torque going through the rear wheels, to break traction in the turn. It's much easier to implement this technique in the Camaro as opposed to the 240. However, the downside is, the Camaro is much more difficult to control once the tail begins to slide.

Power oversteer in a 300hp, 4200-lb luxury car is a frightening sight indeed... Those 245/50ZR/16's make a LOT of white smoke, and the "straightening out" process takes a *bit* longer... LOL. :D
