Car: 2013 Nissan Versa S

Post

Okay, so I've been trying to research this topic for a while now and can't get a very clear answer. So hopefully someone can help me out on here.

I bought a Nissan Versa S.. Literally, the most basic model of the Nissan Versas. And when it comes to charging my phone with the ONE outlet that I have in the whole car, it only will charge with my ignition turned on. It is not that big of a deal but it would be nice if I were able to charge anything I wanted to without having to have my ignition turned on if needed (like while I'm at work).

Is there a way to replace that exact outlet with one that is capable of charging devices without the ignition on?

Thanks for your help and time!

It's a Nissan thing. IDK what the rationale behind it is. Every one I've ever owned does it. I have had a half a dozen GM trucks that I've driven for work over the last 20 years and and they all have cig lighters/charging ports that are on all the time. What I've done on every Nissan I've had is to look in the FSM for the wiring for the lighter and the radio. The radio always has a power wire that's always on for the memory. Then I simply cut the power wire for the 12v port and move it from the stock wiring harness and tee it into the always one power wire for the radio. I've never blown a fuse or caused any other issues doing this.
