im not sure if somebody has a post about this so i do apologize if this is a duplicate. anyway, on with the subject. i was goin to charge up my samsung galaxy s4 via my 2 port car charger plug and was goin to use the power outlet that's below my aftermarket pioneer head unit my dad put in. after plugging it in, im getting no charge so i went ahead and used the power outlet that's inside the center console and it works fine. today, during my usb cord hook up project, i came across this plug.

and then i saw a 2 pin port of some sorts where the somewhat broken power outlet is at below the head unit.

i thought for sure that white plug goes into that port, but after seeing that it is not going in, the shape is a bit different. can somebody tell me what that plug is for? what plugs into the power outlet port to make the outlet work again? thanks!

Well, I don't know what is going on there but you can find the wiring diagrams here:

Section EL for electrical. Maybe that will help!

For the power socket, it's usually a black plug with red and black wires, and the female openings are shaped in a T (like the male portion of the power socket). It tends to slip behind things when the bezel and radio are removed (or, I've had to fish it out on my Pathfinder before). The smaller harness looks like it's connected to an illumination ring...is that a clear plastic ring around the base of the power socket? Looks like there'd be a bulb in between. I'd imagine the two harnesses are loomed/taped together.

As for that mystery plug, how many wires are going into it? Can't tell if that top opening is just from the release tab, or whether there's a wire behind it. And where is this? Behind the radio bezel? Does it match anything on the back of your OE radio, and is now no longer used?

I Just replaced the stereo in my QX4. I agree with Hawairish: your 12 volt(cigarette lighter) connecter wire is indeed missing, most likely fallen inside. I could be mistaken but connector you hold in your hand looks like it goes to the clock, or possibly one of the other backlights: ash tray, 12 volt, 4wd selector, etc.

i know its not the clock because it was hooked up already when i tore down the center stack. and plus, its up top and not at the bottom. obviously.

You griped about not getting a response within a day, then get three more responses the next day, and you follow-up with that response? Obviously, you'll be figuring this out on your own. :tisk:

He was suggesting that it's an illumination lead for a few possible items. It's not obvious where the wire is because you babbled on about a power socket and phone charging and radio and posted some pics that obviously show why there's a problem. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the power socket does not work because it is not plugged in. Now what else are you trying to figure out? Where that harness goes, or how to fix your power socket?

Next time, just take a picture of the harness, zoom out a little on your irrelevant-to-discussion Samsung Galaxy S4, and simply ask, "Does anyone know what this harness is for? I found it unplugged behind the radio."

As for my final response, go ask your dad since he's probably the guy who unplugged them.
