Searched all over for info on this, could'nt find a thing.

What is the POWER mode on the AT transmission? You can flick it between SNOW mode, 'normal' mode (middle click) or POWER mode.

How is power different from the regular mode? I haven't tried it as when I tried SNOW mode the car barely moved, so thought it would be best to ask first :D.

It's speculation on my part, but I would imagine it just delays the shifting slightly increasing the shift point RPM's for a given load...

For towing?

So its not something you would want to use in regular driving?

Consider it a "sport" mode. It holds your lower gears shift points to 5000 rpm...instead of a lower rpm based on your throttle position sensor...just a higher rev mode for a sportier and quicker mode than your standard driving mode.

Snow mode starts your car out in 2nd gear instead of 1st gear, simply to help prevent the wheels from losing traction in slippery/snowy conditions. Basically gets less power to the rear wheels when you start out...think of it like you're driving a manual transmission and instead of putting it in first gear at a stoplight you put it in second gear and ride the clutch a bit to get the vehicle moving with less power and more finesse.

Hope this helps!

Sweet, I figured thats what it would have been but thought I should ask first. Would it be ok to use in general driving conditions? I am assuming it would use more fuel as its reving higher/harder.

Do the G35's have it? I have a 2005 Infiniti manual and couldn't find any mention of it, hence why I asked.

BTW - My car does not function in snow mode, it barely moves.

That is the point for the snow mode. Won't let you accelerate too hard. I don't know how much experience do you have driving in snow but you need it once you hit black ice or other goodies believe me.

2nd instead of 1st gear start is a common snow strategy.

that's right. But even with that sometimes you got black ice and other good ones you need more than that. Next winter I'll tape some good days for you guys or maybe I search some. remember when I was in Russia. That was even worst. There is a tunnel underground. Every winter there is so much accident it's not funny. The tunnel leaks badly. there is always moisture on the road. I had one time I had to put my car reverse and hit it to be able to stop. It was funny I was going forward but the wheels were spinning crazy backwards.

Here is one for you. There is not mch you can do. I heard people say just stay home. Sometimes this guys have 15-20 days/winter like this. You can't stay home every time.

that's some crazy stuff, i've seen/been in some similar stuff myself. zozoka, just curious if you know where that footage was taken because where ever it is, they don't know how to maintain their roads in the winter haha.

i kinda wish we had a power mode state side...

sorry I don't but as I said you can find similar in Russia a lot. To be honest usually it happens in an hour or so. It is weird.

This video is actually in Portland, Oregon. Had a mild winter storm and some people decided to drive on hills when the roads were not very good. This film was picked up by NWCN (northwest cable news) and re-broadcasted on King 5 in Seattle.

I had no problems in my Titan, but then again I know to avoid hills and to drive very carefully during winter weather. Everyone seems to think that AWD or 4WD will prevent you from crashing, so they fly by you in their SUVs and trucks...but let me tell you, rubber slips on ice regardless of how many wheels are putting power to the ground. The only thing AWD/4WD helps with is some stability and for traction when starting out...has nothing to do with braking and maintaining control on downhills or when uncontrolled slippage occurs. Ice doesn't care what you're driving...just how you're driving. Kind of like the snow mode in your car...will start you in second gear but won't do a damn thing to help you stop!

Nice to see some Portland footage on the G-Spot though!

If you're ever in town you can drive this road in the NW area of town, downtown on NW Lovejoy above 23rd Avenue.
