Hello everyone. I bought my 1992 convertible almost a year ago and am finally trying to get it road worthy. I bought it without an engine and was going to do the SR20 swap in it, but decided to get it running with suspension and wheels on it and then worry about more power later...so I acquired another KA24DE and a 5 speed and am in the process of swapping it in now. By the way, I love the info on the convertible 5 speed swap, great information! I am always at club 4AG, I have had 17 or 18 AE86 corollas and currently have 4 besides my convertible and several other cars...

I have acquired several things for my convertible including power folding mirrors from Japan that I plan on installing on it. For those who do not know, these mirrors will fold and unfold automatically at the touch of the button.

I noticed that my convertible has manual mirrors. I looked on the console and see the rear window switch there (and in good shape, I might add). I think I will put the mirror switch in that location and drop the rear window switch into the storage compartment of the console.

It would appear that the convertibles did not come with power mirrors. I did a search but did not find anything conclusive. So, sorry if this topic has been covered to death, but I would like to know if it was ever offered or not, and if so, what was done with the rear side window switch?

Sup Para..

1) Far as I know - I have never seen a jdm or any vert have power mirrors. I almost tried to install power mirrors too (I found from a abandoned hatch) but then chose not to - when I realized I would have to relocate the window switches.

Anyways, if you end up doing the relocation - I would love to see some pics of how it worked out.

This is weird, I replied to this post but it did not appear anywhere...so here I go again.

I knew I would have to at minimum run a jumper wire to each mirror from the switch because the US power mirrors did not have the power folding option, but I hoped I could plug them into the stock mirror plug in the wiring harness. Does anyone know if the vert has the power mirror plugs in the wiring harness or not? I have sen some cars with plugs for options that were available but not ordered for that particular customer's car, so hopefully someone can give the information to me that has taken the car apart somewhat. I will be concentrating on the engine install and 5 speed swap for now, but wanted to find out more on the mirrors.

Thanks.

This forum is very nice!

Let us know how it works out, as I just bought the power US mirrors then quickly realized that the switch went were the rear window one does. I'll probably just re-sell them on ebay, but if you come up with a new solution and find the harnesses in your door, I'd love to hear about it.!
