Hey everyone New to the site. plan on starting a rb26 swap in a few months. plan on taking my time with this build but i wanted some insight from those who DD their rb's what power levels are you using in the street. on pump gas here in new york we get 93 so i will be using that, my turbo selecting would be a t51 kai I dont kno why i'm addicted to this turbo, i dont wanna here go search becuz i have been on this site for the past 2 weeks looking but the info is to scatterd and sum ppl change their boost lvl. their upgrades n all sorts of stuff. I plann on tryin for 500+whp on pump gas n high boost but will turn the boost down for DD (shouldnt that extend engine life?

1) proper english.2) welcome.3) anywhere from 250-500whp is the range that members of this site drive their cars on the street.

Personally my car is around 290-300whp daily on 14psi give or take but it has produced nearly 400whp at 18psi...but the car is rarely driven on low (18psi) and high (22psi) boost.

RB25 making around 300 @ 14 psi drive daily. Has made 385 @ 17 psi on 93. Recently ran 13.2 @110.5mph on 225 street tires. Yes it spun a little.

Quite simply it does not matter, 99.8% of the time you won't be anywhere near WOT anyway.

Mid high 4's here. If I really opened it up on the drive to work I would be shoved face first into the a** of the car in front of me.

+1My g35 has more power than my 240 in the DD rpm range. Keep the cams stock and you'll have a quiet, very streetable car. Never had a problem with cops in nyc.And the t51 is a waste of money for your hp level.

+2 my Cadillac is just as torquey down low as my 26. By the time I'm ripping on it in second gear, I'm already breaking the law and shooting fireballs. Not the best idea for street use hehe.

why would the Kai be a waste? i'm not looking for a full time daily driver on this build, although i want to be able to drive it & enjoy it.not in a rush or have a deadline to finish this. I just want to see how far i can push this build. all of a sudden everyone wants a 900hp car but thats not realistic to everyone im not baller status . if i find a point thats to much for me then thats where i would stop although, 600whp+ on race gas seems like a decent star to grab.

It's a $2500++ turbo that can do 700+rwhp. There are better turbos for a lot less and that will fit your desired hp level.

if your not "baller",than that turbo is not for you... going to cost you $1000ish + minimum alone just to get a manifold to make that turbo worth its weight.

600whp do-able but not cheap. I want to know who is "everyone...900whp" you speak of, sure we have members on here that have made that much but it seems like this "everyone" you speak of 'maybe' the $20,000+ sponsored Japanese tuner shop owned, magazine article cars.

you will have more fun with a different(and cheaper) turbo, and alot more research.

one last thing to think about. for the average person (no hook ups and stuff) for the price of a properly swapped stock rb26 you could have a 500hp RB25 in some cases. The RB26 is a little more suited for the high high power levels but the RB25 can be just as fun. So price to power is something to think about. Im not bias, but thats what I learned being on a college student budget.

I look forward into seeing what you choose, choosing was half the fun to me.

not saying the ppl on here are shooting for those numbers . i been researching this swap n power lvls for months but the info is so scattered i had to join a forum and ask the ?'s but most the threads from other sites i looked up are lil kids without cars saying they have them and posting all kinds of crazy sh** and me researching i have to read the ENTIRE thread to find out the answer to the question that is not there becuz sum1 found out he and the thread turns to a flame...right now im not sure what power lvl entirly i want to shoot for just learning the build n swap as i go but i didnt want to blow 2k on a turbo and decide to build past its potential in the future. kinda wanted to picc a decent turbo and if i build that far great but if not still want the turbo useful. i guess you can say i want more of a high competitor. sumtin like this blue 240sx with the rb swap i been seeing around here from underground motorsports.. but i think with 800+ he puttn down thats no fun in the street. i'll take it slow right now still some things i want to clear up though i posted a thread bout twins instead waiting to see how that turns out but dont you need two of everything to run that setup?

Dont get a T51 unless you want a laggy a$$ turbo.

They sound great but, they take forever to spool.

maryjane what turbo are you running? if you wanted to build past that hp range would the turbo be able to handle it or would you have to swap that turbo out for another one? if your not building past that how are the spool up times and overall enjoyment?
