Replacing the motor shouldn't be too bad. I haven't done it on an M56 but I've disassembled a few mirrors in the past. Sorry, no written instructions but believe me, if you're decent at playing legos it's hard to screw it up.
However, I would do a little more troubleshooting before trying to replace the motor. Can Infiniti even sell you the motor or would it be more efficient to just buy a used mirror assembly?
I would try to eliminate the motor as the issue first before going the replacement route. You'd probably need to refer to the FSM to know what wires do what, but I'd remove the door panel and mirror cover, then splice 2 jumpers to the appropriate color wires leading from the plug into the mirror. Give it 12 Volts from the battery and alternate the terminals to see if the mirror opens & closes.
If it operates, then you've got other issues for example the switch, BCM or ground issues. To check the switch, again I'd jump the appropriate wires leading from the switch and see if the mirror operates... and so on, and so forth.
