I am nearing the end of my winter build up and I am in the market for a standalone. PFC or aem. I am leaning towards the PFC because of the price. What my question is, Do you need to have the datalogit to have a tuner tune it?? If this is the case, then where does one purchase/get the software. Also from what I have gained from some research, there is also hardware involved as well?? Let me know if you have any information.

I have also learned that apexi released this software, but I cant seem to find this on their website.

You dont need the datalogit for the PFC. You can get a PFC commander or just borrow a friends commander to change settings on your car. If you are running boost control then you might want your own commander. The datalogit from what I understand is just a way to connect the PFC to your computer. Also you dont really need to tune the PFC, unless you change things or want to get more power. It comes from the factory with a little more aggressive settings than the factory computer. Its still a little conservative though. I heard AEM's is good, and you need a good tuner to get things right, but I have no real experience with it. I have a PFC and I like it alot, seems to be all I need at least. I think that software is some type of excel program that I dont think they let anyone have besides certain tuner shops. Not too sure but thats what I heard.

I will be needing to tune the pfc. I am building my engine for 400-500 whp. As for AEM, I have a tuner that knows how to tune that very well. But with AEM, its just the price.

Tuning with the PFC commander isn't too hard as long as you know what you are doing. For that hp goal you probably could go with either. I think it will come down to preference. I just have a PFC and am very satisfied with it. I cant wait til I get it on a dyno with a wideband o2. I'm only shooting for 350-400whp though. Good luck with your setup.

I think ive made a decision to go with AEM. The tuner that I have chosen has an awesome knowledge and has been trained by AEM to do so. Thank you for your help with the PFC though
