I have a 1997 nissan pickup king cab -SE with power windows and locks. I have not removed the trim card yet. I have a couple of questions I hope someone can give me some input to resolve an issue with the power locks. The first question, when I remove the trim card, can I gain easy access to the door lock mechanism without tearing the complete door apart and loosing a pound of flesh and ordering up a blood transfusion before I attempt the project. The problem I am dealing with, the power lock switch inside the vehicle will activate the actuator on both the drivers and passenger doors. BUT when I close the drivers door ( the knob is in the lock position) the passenger door locks, but the drivers door will not lock. The drivers door and the passenger door will lock with the key (on the drivers door) but when I turn the key to the left in an attempt to remove the key, the key activates the actuator and both doors unlock. Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response. There is a good chance thats the problem. I undercoated the inside of the door with the door panel on. I was trying to save time. I guess I have no one to blame but myself. The truck has been a real learning experience. Its been in my garage on jack stands for a month. I started out patching a hole in the left (box side) the hole appeared to be the size of a quarter, but turned out to be 11 inches long. Then I noticed a little rust on the rocker (driver side) ended up replacing 32 inches. Then the radiator support needed some attention. I figured I went this far,so why not patch the box. I noticed a little rust on all four corners of the wheel wells, after removing all the rust,I had four holes measuring - 8x14 inches and a hole measuring 4x16 inches, on the front of the cab After a lot of time and almost a gallon of fiberglass,I got the box looking nice.I also replaced the entire inside fender on the left side of the box. When I jacked up the rear of the truck,I noticed a broken leaf spring. Rather than going used I had a new spring cut and bent to the factory specs. I had a exhaust leak coming from the exhaust manifold, I could not tell where it was coming from so I removed the heat shield. One of the bolts was broke on the heat shield,so I spent over an hour carefully removing the rest of the bolts Turns out the manifold was cracked. I located a used manifold and all of the bolts that hold the heat shield on, you guessed it, broke off. Then there is the tube that goes from the manifold to the EGR valve I spent and hour trying to get the fitting loose from the manifold. I even cut the manifold with a cut off saw. I finally removed it with the gas wrench. Replaced the front brakes, and coated the entire underside with a product that cost 18 dollars a half pint, and then undercoated the entire vehicle. The check engine light came on and I learned a new word, its called swirl solenoid. The truck has brought back a lot of old memories.terms and words I have not used in years. The radio works excellent, thanks to the help of people on this site. If nothing else I can sit in the yard and listen to the radio without worrying about being attacked by some creature coming through a rust hole, and there will not be any major drafts in the winter.
