I have a 1992 Nissan 240SX SE Convertible that I purchased from a previous owner around two years ago. I noticed it came with a power antenna that is made to collapse into the car when the ignition is turned off, and rise out of the car once it is tunred on. I can hear the power motor to the antenna running in attempt to fold the antenna back into the car as soon as I turn off the ignition. Therefore, I know the antenna motor is working However, the antenna goes neither up nor down. Is it just not connected? I am sure the motor has power, as I can hear it working.

I had that problem too and it turns out that the mast was broken. Everything else worked there just wasn't enought antenna to rise out of the car. Could just be a loose connection, just pull the rear panel off and check it.S13 Power Antenna Install zerothread?id=256470

LOL I've never seen a 240 with a working antenna.

Good luck with it.

same, neither 240 I have owned had a working power antenna. I should get off my rear one day and tackle it.

lol well Mine works as well as my brothers and uncles we used 3in1 oil where the antenna goes into each other put it in every groove you can and wipe off what doesn't go in once you get it to work keep re-oiling it for a bit about every 2 weeks I re-oil mine and haven't had any problems

I have a 95 s14 with almost 184K on it. and the power antennae didn't die until a few months ago. motor still works. I can here that same noise you describe. Theres a cable inside the mast apparantly that breaks after it dry rots or something keeps the antennae from retracting while the motor is yanking on it. I heard there was a repair kit for it. seems to me like it's easier to just replace it with a fixed antennae.

So true. haha. With a regular antenna I wouldn't have to worry about anymore or ever again.

my S14 has over 258k miles on it and my power ant is working fine, no probs, although the motor doesn't know when to stop..keeps going after it's up or down, and is loud as hell.... as far as your not working, i know some ant masts have a plastic gear, and strip with cogs that make the ant go up and down... that might need to be broken and replacement ones are avail at about most part stores on the cheap

Well, luckily my antenna motor isn't very loud. It sounds like a faint hum almost, once the ignition is turned off. I actually didn't know what the sound was at first and it took me a little while to figure it out.

lol... I never had a power on antenna on my 240, I had an aftermarket stereo and the antenna always stayed up. It never goes down, nor is there a motor sound. Never bothered to look into it, I thought it always stays up. =/

Are you talking about the BMW ones? I don't think you can buy those. There are however those VW look-a-like ones from most after market places, like Super AutoBacs, or maybe an online store might have them.
