I finally managed to fix the PS leak from the main pressure line. Next thing on the list, the antenna. Every time it opens up it makes a grinding noise, which can be fixed with lubrication. What should I use to lubricate it?

What I do is spray WD40 onto a cloth or paper towel and clean the extended antenna. Then while it is running up and down, I lubricate with a clean cloth and light motor oil.

If the motor or drive is noisy, you might have to disassemble the drive motor and lubricate the antenna tail with white lithium grease. I have had cases that with no discernible wear on the teeth of either the tail or the gear drive, I still had to replace the whole unit to restore original operation.

If you've not replaced your mast, you probably need to do that.. its most likely the nylon gears inside on the mast grinding in the motor...

$15 and 30 mins to replace the mast. DO EET (unless you already have)

I think it just need lubrication from outside, because the car wash people (and this is why you should wash your car!) wiped the grease off of the antenna when drying my car. He thought it was dirty.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will do it when I get home tonight.

Mucho Gracias Amigos

Antennas do become dirty! I clean my wife's once a weak as she likes radio so much.

The carwash won't lubricate it once it is clean. Do notice the dirty grease around the bottom section when it comes back up out of the car body after you just cleaned it.

Hey how about I take out the fuse for the antenna. I don't listen to radio, will it hurt if it doesn't go up and down for a while?

I rarely ever use mine, and it works fine even after going unused for months at a time.. But then it's already in good shape and not in need of help.

As much as I like the aesthetics of retractable antennas, they sure proved to be a maintenance/repair PITA over the years.

Not if you don't use them, or maintain (clean and lubricate) them if you do.

I don't use mine as I am on CD in the car.

If you do need to replace it, which I did six weeks ago, check this site out, http://www.antennamastsrus.com...6.htm

It cost me $25.00 and 10 minutes of my time.
