Probably dont belong in this section but im on this section most of the time to search and read up on what everyone is doing and recommending for KA-T but my motor is currently being rebuilt right now and i was tossing up the thought of Powder Coating my intake manifold since everything is apart. I searched and came up with nothing but saw that some one had powder coated there Greddy SR intake mani black and im just wondering if there are and advantages or disadvantages of powder coating intake mani other then them looking pretty cool. I know the benefits of ceramic coating the exhaust manifolds but just wondering about the intake side. Thanks

I know a local guy that does my powder coating. I got my intake pipes powder coated for rust prevention and the good looks. The only advantage of powder coating I see is the good looks and long lasting coating. Unless your talking about ceramic coating. But I never heard of it being done on the intake. I'm sure it could be done though.

I ceramic coated my intake and it works and looks great. i know it has (ceramic coat) good thermal qualities but i really did it for the looks. As for powder coating, i cant see why it would be a problem.

If you're gonna get it coated at least get the ceramic coating done so you gain something from it. You'll insulate the intake from the high underhood temps and maybe increase a few hp. I would advise to polish it first though otherwise it'll look dimpled and ugly.

yeah i havent heard of anyone ceramic coating the intake side thats why i was thinking of just powder coating it to get that cool look but if ceramic coating the intake side is ideal too then thats what i think im going to do. Thanks for the replys guys. Also how much do you think a shop would charge roughly for the intake manifold. Powder and Ceramic. If i can get it done locally i might do that other wise i think im going to send it out to jet hot or swaintech.

I see any gains opposed to plain high temp paint are going to be minimal. You would be better off puting the 100$ or so into your ka-t build rather than powdercoating the manifold. If your just doing it for asthetic perposes then go for it.

yeah it is for just the look of it. I had heard from a friend of a friend who said that powder coating the intake wouldnt be good because it would attract more heat to it. I think they look pretty cool when powder coated or spray painted which ever way people decide to do it but yeah this was not for any power gain advantages. Just wanted to make sure if there was or if any advantages in doing it or if that dude was right. Only reason why im even considering it is #1 my motor is not done yet and i really dont see it being done within the next 2 weeks even though my builder swears we will get the block back this week and #2 because i dont have the block back i have the extra money to do it while the mani is off anyways. who knows i probably wont end up doing it, with my luck ill have my mani sent off and my block will be ready and i wond have the money to pay for it but ive been waiting on parts to come back for 6 weeks so i like i said doub it
