Hey guys. Really new here (just signed up) and don't kow much about much yet. I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Alabama and am looking at (within the next year) buying a G35 Coupe. I will be buying used so I was wondering if there was anything the actual owners could tell me that im not going to hear from a dealer or infiniti's site.

thanks in advance.

Welcome to NICO

If you spend some time reading the many posts it may occur to you that you do not want a used vehicle when some of the members here decide to dispose of them. As a student you may want to investigate insurance costs? I love my G and its the best vehicle I ever owned but I only buy new and tend to keep vehicles a long time. Last vehicle was a 92 Lexus 5 speed. 14 years over 100k miles.IMHO, keep driving what you have, save money, pay off student loans, and in a few years get a new one & pay cash after hard negotiations.

thanks for the feedback man but my mitsu lancer just isn't cutting it lol. I'm mostly covered academically for cost of school and as far as insurance it doesn't matter i ahve to pay a lot anyway. as i mentioned im a mech engineering student and so will be working every other semester with an engineering company not to far from here and will be making 5 to 7k each semester that i work after all my bills etc are paid for said month. thats money that i'll have nothing to use it on unless i wanted to be smart and responsible or whatever but im going to save it for at least 2 semesters and put it as a big downpayment on a nice car. The g35 coupe is just one of many that I am looking at .

The g is a lot smoother ride then the mitsu.

As we always say. Buy a newest possible with the lowest mileage in it. If it is possible stay away from the 03-04. They were the first 2 years and they had some minor problems nothing major tho. Also would be good to have some warranty if you don't want to spend some money out of the pocket in case of emergency. The G is reliable car. I don't know if you really want a coupe or sedan. If you've got a chance look into the 07+ sedan. They are fast and the new design makes it even more attractable.IMOzozo

If you want a coupe, consider the G37. It is the successor to the G35 coupe and is significantly improved. The bad news is that 2008 is the first model year. Therefore, there won't be many used ones for a while. Price for new ones is upper 30s to low 40s.

baqh we have the tech to make really good electric cars and ones that go fast. Mini made a concept car(i guess you call it a concept they actually built it.) it was a mini with four electr motors at the wheels and the only thing that looked different about the mini was that the wheels stuck out a bit more. however it had like 600 or so horsepower at the wheels.

about the G35/37 i get really really good deals on used car so no matter what i buy its gonna have to be used cause i can get used cars for the same price that the dealership pays plus tags/title fee which is not much at all. Though i can get deals on new new cars its not that much of a discount as the store that my dad works at does not put an adendum(spelling?) on their cars so they have really low prices and sell aLOT of cars but yea so there is my story about why I am going to buyin used. I'm pretty much narrowed down to two cars thothe G35 Coupe which im sure i'll get a lot of nice bias oppinions about it hereor a 2003 Ford Mustang Cobraso im really jsut doin a ton of research now joining forums and such.the G35 drivers here seem a fairly close knit group of people though.

Mustang??? Did somebody say Mustang???

Your on a G35 forum!!! j/k

How about a 99 Cobra? Only year with IRS from what I remember. With the money you could save over the 03 cobra, you could put a set of springs/struts on it and much more!!! I helped a friend put a suspension package on his 99 and he loves it!

But, can't go wrong with a G35/G37 !

Yes! You are absolutely right! FORD should have known that Mustang owners would strap a supercharger and slicks to it and take it to the track!!!

However, knowing that, if you are wanting a great car for the twisties, then then 99 cobra is your cobra to get. IRS isn't for straight line anyway.

Oh, btw, GWOODS, you are doing a great job representing us at the track!!! We (read NICO) should help sponsor some of your good deeds!!!

Thanks man!

I would like some slicks? Maybe everyone can chip in? LOL

I'm just doing what I love.... I try to go once a month or so but its been wet lately.

That half shaft isn't from a Stang but they did the same thing due to how EASY it is to add power. If your pushing 500 hp you need a solid axel LOL.

That broken axel pic is from the track on November 3rd. Its actually from one of my buddies SRT-8 Chargers. His 6.1 Hemi is bored and stroked from 370 cubic inches to 426 cubic inches. He has dual throttle bodies and intakes one at the back and one at the front of the intake manifold. He sometimes runs a 75 hp shot of nitrous "as needed". I've seen the car run a lot of 12's but his best was a 11.86 @ 115.3 mph. He broke at the track Friday night and drove it home Saturday night. Last time I was at the track he was out there running 12's. When the track closed he over heated. The aftermarket 180 T-stat stuck closed. Someone had a spare and we changed it without loosing a drop of fluid by flash light!~

heres a video of him (silver) racing my buddy Dan's Supercharged 300 SRT-8 (black).
