Read the Transmission Rattle posts. It may be nothing...or something major. Do you really want to be a test case? If you can wait at all for your new bright and shiny Rogue, then I suggest that you wait...

Daytripper, I agree there is a problem. However it does not appear to affect every Rogue. There are many problem free Rogues (mine included) that do not have this issue.

I would suggest new owners exercise common sense when purchasing any vehicle, new or used and not just the Rogue. Test drive it, more than just once. Keep an eye/ear out for potential issues. And of course educate yourself about the vehicle.

Great advice Philip. One Rogue we test drove, seemed to be very quiet. While the second one we tested had a few rattles. Same thing with my Frontier pick-up. A lot of people report problems on the web site. But you have to realize that people don't post up all the time saying....'my Rogue's running really good. Or 'I Love my TPMS' (for the record...mine works really well--if you went on clubfrontier you would think it to be useless as tits on a fish)

From what I was reading however, this seems to be with the AWD models? We are going to pickup a FWD S model within the next 2 weeks when I hammer out a few pricing details with the dealer.

So far it seems this is true. However there are likely not alot of high mileage Rogues out there. Whether the problem will occur on FWD Rogue but at a higher mileage is unknown right now. BTW, I have 13,000km or 8000mi. on mine with no transmission issues.

SL AWD Premium Package, picked up on Apr 17th, creeping up on 11,000 km and the car is still running flawless. Doing 75% highway and 25% city driving and averaging 8.2-9L/100km.

The CVT does give a slight rumble/vibration (if you want to call it that) in very low rpm (below 1500rpm) and low speed (30-70ish km/h?) but it's barely noticeable. It's very similar to the rumbling you get in a manual transmission if you release the clutch a bit early. I've just chalked it up to the nature of the CVT. Since it's the same "noise" I've noticed in my uncle's Sentra and also the Rogue I initially took for a test drive.

Coming from a 98 Maxima SE to this car took some getting used to but so far I've enjoyed the two months I've owned this car.

Ours didn't make a sound until about 3,000 miles...up until then it was flawless, too

12,000 trouble-free miles for me. No transmission problems or anything else for that matter.

Owning this car is BORING.

8000 miles and no problems in my 9 month old FWD Rogue. I venture to say that for a lot of vehicles if you do research online you will find various problems posted on forums from their owners. I still say this problem seems fairly limited and is not a reason to not by a Rogue, particularly a FWD Rogue. The CVT is a proven transmission, I'm confident that Nissan will resolve any issue with the AWDs. Their must be 60000 Rogues on the road now and the posts regarding the AWD noise are not common and the problem does not leave you stranded. That being said I do feel for anyone wioth a new vehicle of any make that has to park their new ride...what a bummer.

I've had my FWD SL Rogue for 3 months, 5000 km and it is an awesome vehicle - I researched vehicles for OVER A YEAR before I made the purchase so this decision was based on rock solid research. NONE of the competitors in the price range could compete with this unique vehicle. While others such as the Forrester, RAV4 and CRV were close, they were all eliminated based on short comings. And regarding some infrequent transmission issues with the Rogue, the RAV4 already has lots of powertrain complaints and there are recalls, although I can't recall what model years that is for. The Rogue has less shop visits than the competitors so far, and the link to this reliablity tracking web site can be found on this forum as well. The Rogue just has the best balance of value, size, fuel efficiency, comfort, safety performance, looks, practicality and fun to drive factor. It incorporates recent modern technology in terms of the the engine, and the CVT transmission just works so well...anyway I could go on and on, but the bottom line is the Rogue has been excellent.
