Hey guys, Im about 98 % sure im going to pick up a 6MT coupe, but i have a few questions first. I Currently have a 03 93SS, and it is plenty of fun, however, due to the cars engine management system, if i add a boost controller, or..pulleys, or this or that.. the EMS will automatically alter engine performance so that it imitates factory specs. (within reason) this pisses me off to no end! what i want to know is, will i be dealing with the same setup in the G?

question two.. my factory radio is optical out, making it a large pain in the *** to replace the factory system. (i ended up running a second stereo) will i be dealing with the same thing with the G?

any additional info would be great.

thanks guys, Beast

Welcome aboard!

The G ECU will do no such thing. As a matter of fact, we are seeing dtno gains of 8 hp ACROSS THE RPM RANGE for an underdrive pulley!

The G audio is Bose, which means it's proprietary (difficult to mod). Most folks gut it completely (it's my LEAST favorite part of the car).

thats GREAT news! Im so tired of dealing with the BS that my car gives me. dont get me wrong, it IS alot of fun, but.. i just cant take it anymore. so much potential, but no way to use it. oh well, thats why im getting rid of it. I should be picking up a G anytime within a month till spring.. just have to find the right car.

How about known quirks/problems?? what are the top three.. or more

Welcome to NICO and keep us update Beatman.

Like Greg said, the ECU will cause you no real problems. The stereo may. It isn't a very good system and it is a pain in the *** to replace.

Good luck with the purchase.

Save yourself some $ and buy an 03-04 Coupe, the suspension is more sporty and less "floaty"...

No real significant known issues, other than some problems with premature wear on the Brembos (but dealers are taking good care of that under warranty I hear).

Some folks complain of rattles, but from personal experience, this car seems to be built like a tank. Very solid.

The 03 had a couple of minor issues that I know of. There was a window smear problem, there is a TSB that easily addresses that with the change of a part of the window mechanism, the cd player takes eons to change cds, but they changed that in the 04 year. There are a few minor rattles that became present after 10-15k but nothing too drastic.

There have been a few problems with the transmissions in the 6mt. The same problems occured in the 350Z as well. They have been replacing the transmission under warranty. The tranny problem has been addressed in the 05+.

I would make sure that the car has had a proper alignment. There have been a few that were set a bit more agressive from the factory which has resulted in some uneven/odd tire wear.

That's all I can really think of right now.
