I know that thread was locked because of all the crap....not starting that up again.

My girlfriend has worked for Allstate for 25 years.......she says that winshields fall under the comprehensive part of your coverage and not the collision part. So claims like winshields or hail damage or trees falling on your cars dont usually work against you. It's not like making a claim for a fender bender.

So broken winshield dude may want to just make a claim.

Now if he has a ton of claims already the situation may be different.

Just my two cents worth.

Funny, after reading that thread I went online to confirm I had glass coverage

I remember when I had a rock chip repaired and the guy charged my insurance - it showed up on my policy but it didn't effect the policy. it was given zero points value. A $1200 windshield may be differnt than a $50 repair'd chip.

glass coverage or no glass coverage; broken windshields fall under "comprehensive" on your insurance policy. just a matter of if you have to pay a deductible or not.

And some companies have no deductible on glass.....Max4speed said he had state farm.....he ought to check into that.

By the way.....when did this forum start sending email notification of posts on your thread???? Cool. or did i do something different?

Glass is usually considered a comp claim, but many insurers have clauses that allow for a glass claim to go without deductible - mostly because a glass repair is lower than the average deductible.

Just note that comp claims can count against you in the long run. While some compaines will not rate against several comp claims, they may non-renew you for excess activity on your account.

Asking for an e-mail on a given topic is is one of the clickable buttons under the "Options" menu (to the right of the text entry window) when you post a reply or start a new thread.

Been there for a long, long, time ... but does not always work correctly, unfortunately. Must have been fixed recently.

Long back my car was vandalized with $6K of damages. It was covered under comp. and my premium never went up. I was with Farmers. Typically comp deductible is less than collision deductible (150 vs. 500 in my case).
