Hey guys,

I might be picking up a new ride and before I do. I want to know the things I should be weary about before picking one up.

I already have a private seller selling one of his extra Zs to me. When I met him he was already driving a 280 and a built engine and a wide body kit and custom exhaust. He runs his own exhaust shop, a family business with him and his mom.

I'm also an interior whore, so anybody have any good links or pics of others 240z interiors? (i'll be doing a search as well)

And for a paint job, maybe black and to finish off the looks. a light cover.

He claims:Great condition16k milesNo rust4sp manual transmissionRunning1k asking price

I have yet to see it, but I will in the next couple of days.

Thanks ahead of time!-Travis

rust is the number one killer be sure to look it over very welll, preferably with an experienced datsun person, if it's not glass or rubber it's a possible rust problem, keep us posted

sounds fishy. he works on them and runs a business, apparently owns more than one car and yet he is basically dumping this for $1k? it just doesn't add up.

when you're looking for one, they're expensive. you can stumble across deals. My buddy tried selling his '70. needed some rust work but we had balanced/blueprinted the motor with some special sss(i believe) small chamber head. shaved it and installed hardened valve seats with 280zx valves. twin tgv(iirc) webers(the progressive 2 barrels). 4" ss supertrapp.he got tired of trying to sell it and towed it to junk yard about 4 years ago.

I believe the SSS stuff is 4 banger only, but putting the larger valves in the early heads is a common practice, the webber DGV's (the down draft ones that bolt to the stock intake manifold with lieele "J" adapters are not favored in the comunity but at a fraction of the cost of the tripple DCOE's

Since this was already brought back from the dead...

Obivously the seller and I couldn't contact each other, so whatever. Just continued on living happily (at times) with my S14.

Maybe instead of getting a Z, I'll just find a way to drop a L28 in the S14. lol.

Is it even possible?I'm sure there would need to be some transmission work, drivetrain, but if I remember correctly. The engine (L28) is longer than the KA24de, so body alterations might need to be made.

the L28ET has been put in the S13 at least twice, I had to fix a lot of mistakes on one of them

Do you think it's a swap worth doing?

if you happen to have a 240sx with a bad motor and a good l28 et lying around by all means, if however yuou are looking for easy swap the ca's or sr's are well documented and intended for that chassis, the ka has lots of potential on it's own, I have a bud doing the VH45 swap in an s13, then you get to the VG's and even the VQ, just depends on your goals, skills and budget

Originally when I got the car, I wanted SR.

Then I realized I like torque so I thought about RB/LS1 or KA.

RB too muchLS1, too much work.

KA. DOHC are cheap and I know them the most (and I'm still a nub, but have great mechanic friends).

N/A KA, fully built with ITB for a response beast for drift and touge. And eventually down the road for turbo for something when I'm bored at night on the freeway.
