Well guys, for a long time now ive been having a problem with my ka-t. For some reason, in all gears, when i push the pedal anywhere from about 10-20% ish and just hold it there, as my rpm's start to rise, the motor will start to hesitate really bad. The only way to stop this is to either push more throttle or let off...At 1st i thought it was my bov tripping open and close, but then i realized, if the bov was opening and closing, i would here it and immediatly know what the problem was..But this sound is different. Last night while out strolling the streets, the motor started that same usual hesitation with the same noise. Then a light turned on in my brain, and i said to myself wow, this noise that occurs during the hesitation sounds like my wastegate opening up when it reaches the 8 psi.... (by the way, im running open dump).I then listened to it again and noticed that the noise was also comming from that same general area where the turbo / manifold / wastegate is....That sound im hearing while the motor acts up is identical to the sound that the wastegate does when its dumping to atmosphere....I have the Tial 35mm (revhard manifold) with the side port hooked directly to the compressor nipple with NO boost controller.. The top port on the Tial is just venting to atmosphere... Could this problem i have be related to the Wastegate...??

ThanksRobert

Check to see if the turbo or wastegate is coming loose from the manifold.

Well, i understand what your saying as afra as checking to make sure they are both tight, even if one of them was loose, wouldnt that only effect performance on WOT... when full pressure is being exerted...?? i dont see how only 10-20% throttle would cause such major problems vs 50-100% throttle not having any problems at all....

Like I said Rob, I've had this same problem for awhile now and have yet to fix it. I can hear the bov opening and closing as well as the wastegate when it happens. Mine will do the same at little throttle, only if I let off or give it 100% throttle can I prevent the boost from jumping up and down. Gr.

at 50% - WOT your creating enough velocity to bypass the leak. check your manifold bolts too. make sure none of them have come loose.

even if one nut were to come loose, it may be enough to cuase a leak when more pressure is seen in the manifold, but not at idle. I've dealt with this quite a few times with mine. And there was a loss in power associated with it. It's not certain this is the problem you are having, but I'd check it out anyways.

'Sides, it's never a BAD idea to check all your bolts and fittings periodically.

I personally know of many bullets dodged through periodic inspections of stuff like that.

Ok, checked everything and all seems to be tight. I went thru all the nuts with my open end wrench and socket and all were tight. All vacuum lines are in-tact. What else could be causing this problem..??

It's tough to say without hearing it for myself. Maybe test the wastegate to make sure it's not opening prematurely. Check the gaskets as well. I've blown plenty of them myself.

I just dont see how it only effects when the throttle is between 10-25%..... I could understand at 75-100% throttle, but just barely tapping the throttle for it to act up..??

I'd not rule anything out at this point. As with anything, I try to look at all possibilities. Rule tham out as I go along. Start with the easy stuff and work up to the bigger stuff. Maybe even pull your spark plugs to see if there are any signs on the plugs that might tell you what is going on inside the engine compartment.
