I have two problems but I will separate them into two posts... ko here is the rundown on my transmission situation. I have never driven another 240 besides my own so I have no idea what is normal and not but I have driven newer cars.... When I shift it just feels that the gears are loose or something. Don't know how to describe it so I will just leave that comment on the side....

Sometimes I can't shift back into first. Like I will be at a stoplight, try to move out of neutral and get into first (or from reverse into first) and when I move it into position, it won't go in. It's like something is blocking it. The first time this happen I was scared I wouldn't be able to drive it. Then I just kept shifting into the other gears and moving them around a bit, then eventually I can get back into first.

The same thing happens in reverse. Sometimes when I start the car and want to back out of my driveway, sometimes it wont shift into reverse. So I move the shifter around, rev the engine a lil bit (have no idea if that helps or not) and eventually I can shift into reverse.

What is the deal? Car is 1993 240SX with about 80k miles. I bought it at 75k miles. It has new transmission fluid and diffy fluid. And I am not very tech savvy yet... so please don't ask me to like "pull off your transmission and check this and that" because I won't be able to do that. But if you guys can let me know if it is normal, or fi something is dying, I can buy whatever it is and have a mechanic replace it.. or if this is something that can only be diagnosed by a mechanic. or whatever. Thanks.

One suggestion I have is to change your transmission fluid to redline. This made a world of difference in my car, I had problems shiftinginto 1st and 2nd in the morning and after the fluid change it went in smoothly. I was at DD11 last sat and had one of the Falken drivers drift my car and he was impress with how smoothly it went into gear.

I'm already running aftermarket transmission fluid (Motul MotylGear). Any other suggestions?

i had the same problem in my volvo, i mean the same problem. i tore the transmission apart and found that the syncro's took a dump. i later found out that the previous owners used gl-5 in the transmission which kills copper or brass syncro's. which nissan uses. so i would think you might need a transmission.

Yea I'm getting the same impression that it is the syncro's as well... arg. Any way to buy new syncro's? Hard to find a low mileage transmission. Or is a rebuild possible?
