I'm not a stranger fixing import until a full sized dodge pickup killed my Mitsu. So, I bought my 2nd fav car. Yes, it needs a lot of TLC for my 89 HB.

Here's my set of problems.

When I bought this 240 cheaply, I knew I had to fix it up a bit. For some odd reason, the owner swapped out a manual in fav of an auto after taking out the original motor with a possible rod bearing problem (knocking on the bottom end - I have the motor). The transmission is notchy from 1st to 2nd and slams into park a bit loud, not loud as my previous 86 old ciera that was practically thumping. Nor does it slips badly as my past 85 renault alliance. Also, when I accelerate moderately, the car sounds like a box truck with a turbo diesel until hitting 3rd gear.

My next problem is the AC. The owner did gerry-rigged some wires to it. When it's on, I hear crackling sounds like aluminum foil frying inside a microwave . . . all that crackling noise. When I'm accelerating w/ AC, my motor sounds like I'm dragging a box under the chassis, but it's coming from the engine bay. Next, it doesn't blow cold air until +35 mph. The temp is average at best, not enough to sweat like a pig in FL humidity.

Possible solve the problem . . . yes, I've taken 2.5 hrs to search the site.

1) A SR20 transmission will bolt up to a K-series motor?2) The flywheel and clutch for the SR20 are different comparing to the K-series.3) Will it cost under 1K for auto to manual swap? I really wished the owner kept the manual parts. I've read the process for the 240 and a DSM.4)Will a SR AC compressor bolt onto the bracket of a SOHC motor? Don't have enough room to eyeball fitment issues?5)How much does it cost to convert past refrigerant to the new one? What parts are replaced?

Thanks.

Also, I'm so used to this K-series motor from driving the nissan hardbody, altima, and a 98 240. My weakness will be transmission knowledge.

1) Yes2) Yes3) Depends on where you get your parts, for how much, if you do the work yourself, etc. From the suond of your post you don't know enough to do it yourself, therefore it will not be under a grand.4) No. It won't. 6) Usually around $225 at my local place, you have to replace alot of seals and stuff. I'd say your looking at having to buy a new A/C compressor, and if you're doing that you can consider converting it over.

Your transmission problems sound like a gunked up hydraulic system. Do the normal flush fill pan drop filter replacement and then see what problems you have.
