TLDR; Possible to replace sunroof drain grommet? What are my options?

The sunroof drain grommet was updated 2 years ago (2024) to 74816-6SA0A

What I tried:
so I bought two of them and watched a video on replacing the grommet on a G37 thinking i could do the same to my car, boy was i wrong. After removing the passenger vent (and breaking it a little) i discovered the a pillar vent is blocking access.

I then removed the glove box hoping I could gain access from there but I couldn't find anything.

Can't get to it after removing the a pillar either.

Temporary fix:
Instead I settled for pulling the blocker off of the front of the drain grommet so the water can freely flow now.

Some of those firewall fittings are next to impossible to access, but removing the diffuser nubs as you did should be a permanent fix. They're the root of all evil on Nissan/Infiniti sunroofs. The fittings almost never clog once they're removed. They're supposed to stop the drain from gurgling in a downpour, but the price for that is a terrible trap for mud and tree sap. You should have no more trouble now.

What blocker was pulled off? I've never had draining issues but it's on my todo list (cleaning them out) on both my '11 M56x and '16 QX60.

Just to confirm, we are looking at the yellowing plastic circle contraption with a small hole in the center? Just remove that will prevent drainage issues from building up ever again?

Yep. Those little diffuser nubs are the root of all sunroof evil. If you can't get at the fitting from outside to remove the nubs (sometimes the driver's side is covered by metal), pull the hose off the inside and poke a screwdriver through to break it. Half a loaf is way better than none.

DO NOT pull on the hose. After reviewing the FSM and taking things apart my self, with both the vent and a pillar removed you CAN NOT get to the back of or even see the back of the grommet, once you pull that hose off youre SOL. the dang air forest vents going into the a pillar block you from getting to the drain grommet.

I got to the passenger grommet easily by removing cowls, the drivers side is the devil's contraption, I had to remove one wiper arm and pry up the cowl so I had just enough clearance to fit my hemostat (24" long curved medical tweezers) and spent about an hour bumping the nub until it broke off. I seen no other way of getting to the drivers side.
