Hey everyone, just did some compression testing on my '00 GLE and found out that cylinder 4 is misfiring and only holding 60 psi as opposed to 145. The guys at Goodyear told me I was pretty much going to have to replace the motor. I was wondering if anyone knew of an alternative/cheaper/easier way of fixing this problem without replacing the entire motor. Thanks in advance!

You don't necessarily have to replace the motor. It could get expensive to repair, though.

Low compression may mean a bad headgasket or bad piston rings.Drain your oil and see if there's any antifreeze in it. If there is it likely means you have a bad headgasket.

if your head asket isnt bad you can try doing a oil change with some lucas. some times that can help the rings a bit.

I appreciate the info guys. Anyone know a ball park estimate of what it would cost to to fix the head gasket or piston rings?

The head gasket itself is not too expensive (like $35-40), but the labor hours involved are rediculous due to the DOHC (about 18.5 hours for one head gasket).

Depending upon the mileage on your car, I would consider getting a used motor (only 16-17 hours labor). I picked up a 65k mile motor for $750 and installed it myself.
