Is it possible to drop OBD to variable timing by replacing the ECU or does it take alot more than that

.....if at all possible?

I owned a 91 NA before and now have a 96 dont see much power difference between them other than the 96 runs alot cleaner only having 60k miles on it...

Well there's got to be different wiring harnesses as well, because before 96 there was no OBDII port.

And I'm guessing the 96 models won't have the right intake cam gears for VTC either. VTC uses a special gear with a spring inside it.

Oh also, modifying emissions components is a federal offense. Not saying throwing test pipes on your car will land you in the slammer, but completely deleting the OBDII system might stir up some trouble if you get caught. In my state, it is impossible to register your car without a current inspection; it's also impossible to pass inspection without OBDII (if it is 96 or newer)

It's not like one of those things where you can go to your buddy who will pass you cuz he knows you, it is REALLY impossible to pass it because it hooks up to the computer and that computer communicates with the state.

That's just how it works over here though

so basically you want to add vtc to your 96? I don't see why? yes you can with the cams, gears, soleniods, ecu and harenss but no real benefit, 10 hp gain that you could get by adding cat back exhaust

and yes if you have local emissions you might find yourself in trouble there

Hmmm not going to chance that haha.. they even check for insurance here.. but hell you never know

i was thinkin about the change becuz I do not see any JWT ECU's for a 96, see 90-95 years mentioned nothin about 96

can I use any of the others? or were there no ECU upgrades made for the 96?

Yeah i dont see any aftermarket ECUs for obd 96 either

i just picked up a 96 TT the other day and was wondering if i could even run a wideband 02 sensor if its obd2 ?

what are all the down falls of having a 96 TT ?

The egr valve has been removed by last owner causing a check engine light ... any way to get rid of the light ? besides pulling it out of the dash
