since im in the spirit of doing homework, i decided to take a break for a bit and ask a very interesting question. the important parts are highlighted in bold in case you cant stand long reading.

do you think it is possible to retrofit an EGR system to the SR? oddly, i feel like putting most of my emission stuff back for the sake of passing emissions. the state referee and smog instructors at my school gave me an ounce of hope that "if you put back most of you emission equipment, you can still have a great car without poisoning the air." and most emission devices aren't really that bad of power robbers. excellent power can still be made (watch JDM Insider Kansai Adventure 1 and watch the company profile of Phoenix Power in Japan).

i know the common things we get rid of are the AIV (steering column clearance), charcoal canister, CAT, and the list goes on. im guilty of removing all of these things. everything but a manual and unlit sunvisor effects emissions nowadays.

its not like i definitely need this done, but i was just pondering the possibility, and it would be nice to have some peace of mind driving around. sure you say, "but the cops will pop your hood and just tow your car away no questions asked." or "it robs power, get rid of it." i hope this doesnt make me look like some sort of hippie or anything.

does the KA intake manifold bolt up to the SR? I know the exhaust manifold for KAs bolts up with slight filing, so im just putting two and two together.i was thinking of using the KA intake manifold in conjunction with any turbo nissan's EGR. the 300zx and Q45 charcoal canisters look similar in vacuum routing to the SR, so i thought about running those as alternatives to compensate for the SRs HC and CO problems (especially those of us running atmospheric BOVs). and of course, running a cat again.

its not like my car is going to be a martyr for clean burning SRs or anything, but its a start, especially in CA.

ideas or complaints?

If you buy a front clip yes cause all the stuff is there. You might be able to use KA stuff but not all of it. If you want to pass emissions put a **** load od catalitic converters on it. Or just find a shop that you can pay off to pass you.

i bought a complete front clip. SRs just dont come with EGRs, and i tossed most of the equipment out with the stigma that i would have to cheat my way into passing emissions. now i realize i could possibly pass the LEGAL way if i try hard enough.

putting a bunch of catalytic converters would hurt the backpressure, and it would not pass visually.

i was thinking of using the KA AIV valve and attaching it to the SR turbo housing. that way it might be able to just slightly bypass the steering shaft.

you will not pass visual inspection no matter what you do if you have a motor swap.

well that is without a BAR sticker. referees must treat it as any normal car, and on an individual basis. if you have a referee examine the motor for emissions, and it passes, then you can get the BAR sticker certifying it for the street. if you can legalize JDM B16s, doing the same to an SR should not be any different.
