I just got my timing belt and water pump change by a professional mechanic that is used to dealing with imported cars. However, when i got the car back it seems hugely underpowered and the turbo seemed to heat up like crazy (more so than usual). So i got home pulled the plugs and there coated white = too much heat.

What the hell is going on? Did they **** the timing or what? Any ideas?

kinda sounds like timing. bring it back to them and ask what's up... any good shop should stand behind their work and at least check it out for you. Maybe they put the belt on wrong (off a tooth or something minor like that).

i thought it was impossible to be off a tooth with these engines because they are an interference engine.

I thought it might be timing too, what is stock timing supposed to be at?

you can run a tooth off and not hit anything. yes its an interference motor, but its not that close... a tooth off on the timing belt will cause poor performance and driveability, but not engine failure.

15* is stock timing I think (check the FSM to back that up though).

Sounds like they screwed-up the timing like you said or don't know how to set the timing on the CA, which many folks don't know how to do.

have you checked the dynamic timing (with a strobe) a lot of "profesionals" don't understand the CAS

probably set it up wrong. What usually happens is they just point the two dots on the cam gears at each other and they figure that's how you set the timing up. WRONG!!!! take them the fsm and tell them to do it again

that wouldn't cause this problem, I'll guarantee it's either the belt a tooth out or the CAS set wrong or maybe both

I agree with sideways on this one. Make them do it again and again and if you can, watch them do it. Putting the CA timing belt on can be tricky if you never done it before. And sometimes cockiness will get you in trouble, too.

Sorry guys He got it right.

I took it back made them obviously fix it, so i am watching him do this and he starts messing around with the metal round thing that sticks out of the timing cover...Ive never done the timing either on a CA so i never said anything, but it seemed to fix the problem but isnt't that metal thing the cam gear and/or related?

The car feels way better but some how not 100%, i dunno it could just be me and the feeling when someone else does work on your car.
