I am tempted to Swap my KA for a VG30DETT... and keep it automatic. What does anyone think? Has this been done before? I know it has been done to a coupe but I dont know about a vert. Any suggestions?

I'm assuming you're talking about a VG30DETT. I don't think I've seen a vert swapped with a VG motor yet.

It's a unique swap but I personally wouldn't do it because it's way too cramped for me to work on. I'd have to have some serious mechanical skills to keep an engine like that properly maintained and if I'm gonna do an engine swap, it's not gonna have an automatic transmission.

That's just me though. If you're up to it (got the know-how/money), go for it.

I'd rather stick with something more simple.

don't know if you've already looked at this thread but here it is. there wouldn't be much difference in doing this to a vert...and in the pics it seems there's plenty room for this swap. check out the link zer...age=1

the guy's name is dale and he is coming out with a kit for this. but be patient because it's a whole lot of work.

Thats the same exact thread that i looked at but after thinking it over i decided it would be to expensive. Hopefully you have the money to do the swap if you are willing to take the time and effort into doinf it. That would be an awesome engine to fit into a 240sx convertible. But it would probably make driving a lot different since it is so big. You should research and know what you are getting yourself into.

from what i hear, the vg30dett is a high-maintenance engine. and it's heavy. with the small engine bay, it just seems like a huge headache.

it would definitely be cool, but i wouldn't do it for the simple fact that i would HATE working on it after it was in.

I have a friend that lives pretty close that owns many 300zx's. i know what i am getting into and how heavy it will make my car. I think the only problem i am finding is how to brace and reinforce it. i am even thinking of caging it as weird as that sounds.

there's actually less room in the engine bay of a 300z than a 240sx..as per dale says. and he's the one coming up with the kit.
