I'm looking at a 99 maxima with 96,000 miles on it. Good condition. However, the seller said it's a gle, but it has cloth interior and no climate control so I think it's a gxe. Asking $7,000. Anything I should be looking for in particular with this year and mileage. I'm have not owned a maxima but want to replace my acura legend with one

Welcome to NICO!

The sixth digit of the VIN will be your indicator of which trim level it actually is. A "G" indicates a GLE, while an "E" indicates a GXE, and a "V" indicates a SE.

The most important thing is maintenace record. Check for leaks, odd noises, hose condition, etc. These are pretty bullet-proof cars if properly maintained. It is also advisable to run a carfax, especially if the trim level options and what is actually in the car don't match.

I don't see a G, E, or V in the vin - JN1CA21D3XT200325 No leaks, changed spark plugs every 25,000 miles and uses synthetic oil. Looks like it has been taken care of. Had a slight "ticking" noise that I don't know if is typical. The acuras all made noise so I don't know if the maximas are completely quiet or not. Thanks for the info, my friend loves his maxima and has had good luck so I think I'm safe with this one.

Woops, it's the sixth digit of the lower series of numbers (below the VIN) on the data tag on the passenger side of the firewall.

96k is just getting started for a well-maintained Maxima.

Maximas are pretty quiet at idle and cruise RPM.
