Well, I have decided that I really want a Q45, 2003-2004 but budget won't allow it. I did however find a 1992 on craigs...he mentions a blue relay. For the price, I think I might be able to turn this car or keep it if I like it. My J30 I LOVE, but lacks the pep I want. Any feedback would be appreciated!!!!

TIA,

Steve

Oh man I remember that guy... He had that car listed on Ebay and I saw him selling if for DIRT cheap. I sent him a message telling him to replace the starter relay (Blue relay) and then it may run.

If you buy it and replace the starter relay with a OEM new or confirmed working used then you will have a car that still requires work, Just so you know.

You said you really want a Q45, 2003-2004 but budget won't allow it, so how far away is your budget? How much money are you looking to spend on a car?

They are actually selling for far less thanthat, but that's besides the point since you know that it's not what you want now. What I was getting at, is if you have for example $3000 to spend, you'd be better off finding a clean car that has had lots of work already done, than you buying a $400 car that requires thousands of $$$ in work and time.

used, 18 year old, multiple owner{each one poorer than the last} generally means you end up purchasing a worn out neglected money pit for a low upfront cost.........dont be fooled, even if you obtain it for FREE, it will be a expensive car to restore to good operating condition{multiple thousands of dollars} and then, you still have a 18 year old car with lots of near wornout parts that will fail on a ongoing basis.......better to spend the coin upfront on a MUCH newer low mile vehicle!!!!!

Mine was a one owner, all service records included car, and I still have find that upkeep is financially demanding; and when members often suggest $3000-$10,000 in re-hab, they're not far off.

He wasn't really flaky but he just didn't want the car because of the headache.

If you can get EVERY receipt, Infiniti service history (From any dealer the vehicle has been to) and maybe a Car Fax if those have helped you out before and it looks like a good car from those three things then go for it.

Save your pennies and get an '05 or '06 Q45 if you can find one. You'll be happy in the end if you do. :)

If it helps, I'll add my 2 cents. I got intrigued by Q's when my neighbor was selling a '99. Low miles (65k) but he was asking way too much (10k). I then saw an '02 that I was infatuated with because it had the premium package. It was dirty, smelly, and the current owner bought it at auction because it had a minor front-end collision. He was selling it for $9,800 and I passed because it just didn't feel right. I then found an '05, one owner with 120k. Yes, the mileage is high, but it was serviced routinely at an Infiniti dealer and I got all of the service records. It was a trade at an Acura dealer, and I ended up getting it for $12,000. I just spent $580 for the 120k service and I ordered a new set of plugs from Infiniti of Scottsdale. The car is clean, rides like a dream, and while it was probably more than what I wanted to spend, in the long run, I made the right decision. Based on the other replies to your thread, you can pay now or pay later. I'm glad I decided to pay now!

Age is what kills cars... When you are comparing a 1992 model to a 2002 model, owners had an additional 10 YEARS on the older car to screw things up...

Old Qs are great vehicles when you get the right one... which is not always an easy task.. :)

We will see how you F50 owners fare in 2022 when your cars are 20 years old like the 1990 Q is now...
