was drivin my 240 about two to three weeks ago and it got hot, i got it home truned it off and checked the coolant, was fine, waited for it to cool down started it, let it warm up, and drove it down the road, acted like the transmission didn't want to grab, stopped at a stop sign going up hill, proceeded from the stop sign and it sounded like aluminum cans in the rain. help, opinions, comment.

How did you check the coolant level, found no issue, then waited for it to cool.

I dunno you need to pinpoint this sound.

Running hot, sluggish, noisy... Sounds like a clogged cat that's falling apart.

Dont drive it, until you know what it is.

How hot is hot? Like a tick mark above where it normally is or off the temp gauge. Also Whats been done to the car? Stock engine, swapped? Give us some more info.

once an engine overheats, you have about 60 seconds to turn it off or you will ruin the head. blown head gasket/warped head sets in within minutes after the car runs too hot.

...but yeah, its kinda hard to tell what exactly you are talking about. you could be saying it got hot inside the car, the transmission got hot... not sure.

when your engine runs hot, the transmission doesn't want to go into gear and it will grind.

you blew your head gasket. have fun.

Where are you getting these numbers from? My engine has gotten "hot" several times and i have not blown the HG or warped head. 60 seconds seems very short. I could see running the engine for 5-10 min with the temp off the gauge causing those issues. But 60 seconds i call :bs:.

Well you can run hot for a little bit but I think he means more of having your temp gauge maxed out kind of hot. Then you have about a minute.

Ya i could see that but its going to take a few min to get that high, it sounded like he ment once the temp starts to climb.

I am talking full blown overheating where the needle goes until it pins the max, not just running slightly hot.

trust me if you are running hot enough to peg the temp gauge and you still have your foot on the pedal, the motor will turn into a chunk of s*** in literally no time.

Meh I don't buy all of this with the engine hot engine driving. The heat transfer through the block to the bell, into the trans to heat up up that much, meh I don't see it.

This is what you can do.
-Test cooling system (rent a tester, test system at 1.5 bar for 30 minutes)
-Have rad cap tested
-Check spark plugs
-Check compression
- Remove the cat and see what it looks like inside

DID YOU HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

it happened to me when I blew the water pump in my old S14. noticed the temp gauge tag the max, saw some smoke, knew it was too late... trans wouldn't shift into the next gear without a huge grind. a few seconds later the car shut off, used my massive forearm strength to steer the 40mph car around a 90 degree turn at a red light. LOL

...and skip all of those steps if your temp needle maxed out, the head gasket will be gone.

srry about not being a little more specific, it got hot, like needle and engine screaming bloody murder, down I-75, got it home, copy and paste first repsonse, not hot inside or anything........, doesn't sound like a transmission sound, but when i took it for that short drive it felt like the transmission did not want to grab, slipping, but i've heard if the head gasket is blown it will act that way. am currently tearing down, gotten intake and exhaust off so far................. :dblthumb:

if the temp gauge maxed out... no. no need to waste time and replace s*** that isn't the problem. I can bet money that if the temp gauge maxed out the head gasket is blown and the head warped. anyone who has overheated like that will agree.

iight thats cool, considering redoing my valves and springs when the head comes off, head has got to be machined anyway, well idk i'll take it to the shop and then see if it has to be machined and then i'lkl go from there :bigthumb:
