Possibly looking to obtain a 1990 300zx in trade for my motorcycle. My bike is worth a solid $4400. Would like some opinions on the value of the Z, and what are the problem areas I need to be aware of or questions I should be asking. Car has 172k miles which seems awfully high, but seems to be very clean for its age.

Welcome! Looks pretty good, definitely go for a test drive. Look for brake shimmy, which could be a sign of failing tension rods. Check for frame/body damage/repair.

It does look clean both inside and out. With that many miles and it being a non-turbo, I think $4500 is a bit high tho. In my book I'd say it's worth a solid $3k. Maybe you could trade your bike for it with some money on top from him?

Definitely go for a test drive like BigT said. Make sure it idles good (not rough or weak) and that when you drive it there's no loss of power and the trans shifts good.

Welcome to NICO!

It looks clean and very well maintained.

Remember never judge a book by its cover test drive it as T said. Inspect everything very well check for evidence of body repair ect..

Good luck.

Agreed on $3k being a fair price.

All of the above is true, and $3K max unless timing belt/120K service/waterpump also recently done- you should know this is a $1.5K mandatory service job or if tbelt goes, you ruin the engine.
Check the radiator and coolant carefully for leaks, and also check the centrifugal clutch fan and make sure it spins, but with some tension. If it spins free or is bound up be concerned, and check the engine temp with engine hot and running- should be in the near exact middle and not higher.
Good Luck!
