This is my first post on this forum, I've owned a 93 gts25t skyline for about 5 months now. The car ran great until the rain season started here in Okinawa. I searched all 22pgs in this forum before deciding to register and ask my question.

Now the problem: Sometimes my car will turn off while driving. It happens under normal driving and sometimes when I drive it hard. For example, I'll be getting up to speed and have the car at around 3K RPM and all of a sudden it will cut out, the electronics stay on. Sometime it will even start itself back up before the RPMs hit zero. When it does die, I'll throw it in neutral (A/T) because I'm usually coasting when it does die, and try turning it back on. It will crank but instantly die again, this will happen 4 or 5 times before it finally stays on and I'll throw it back in drive. This was happening like 5-6 times within a period of 20 minutes of driving. Looked online and found this website, found other posters had similar problem, but not quite the same and most replies said MAF sensor. I switch the old MAF sensor and the car ran great for the next two day, but it didnt rain those two days. Well, today it was raining and when I went to start my car, it died right after it cranked. It did this 3 times before finally staying on and then it did it again 2 minutes later while driving. When I left work it started fine, but 1 minute later it died on the road. I pulled over to see if my filter was wet, it felt a little damp but not soaked. Right now Okinawa is having ridiculously humid weather. There wasnt any water around the filter so I dont know whats up with it. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to include as much info as I could. ANy suggestion? The MAF sensor that I replaced was a used one from one of the local shops here so it could be bad but I doubt it, because the originally was still giving me **** the day I went to get it switched out, which was a sunny day. Also, when the orig MAF was on, if I tried twisting it a bit it would shut the car off, the new doesn't

So you mean that you jiggled the MAF sensor around and it caused the engine to stall?

Sounds like it is a wiring issue to the MAF sensor. Have you inspected the harness for areas that look heat-stressed or scuffed/abraded?

+1 sounds like wiring issue.

Things to look for:

Burnt installation (crispy wire protection)Corroded terminals on connectorsExposed wiresetc.

Check your body grounds as well.

I'll recheck the connector in the AM. Rust is real common out here, the term could be corroded. I have tried wiggling the harness at the base where the line connect to the connector and nothing happened. I thought it could've been the damp air filter, but I will definitely recheck harness tomorrow.

Yes, the old MAF sensor when jiggle would shut the car off.

The new -used- one I put, even when jiggled wont turn the car off.

it's probably the MAF itself. i had the same jiggling problem and i thought it was my wiring. redid the whole MAF wire portion and it didn't fix it. got a THIRD set of used MAFs and it finally went away.

i know it sucks, but try getting another MAF, then get another one to keep as a spare in your garage. they are finicky like that.

I checked the harness today and as far as I could see there was no damage to it. I'll try getting another MAF, there only like $20 out here, its worth another shot. The connector terminals were a little gunky but not rusted out.

I noticed somethings else tonight. The car would shut down on me if I would accelerate hard and then release the gas pedal.
