Alright, I have owned a 300zx NA before and sold it not too long ago, I put a lot of time into that car and had it torn all apart and put back together so i am pretty familiar with them. I just acquired a TT a couple of months ago now. Its actually a TT swap. engine completely rebuilt 10k miles ago. Everything seems to be running and working great. i just replaced the transmission myself and have been driving it the last couple weeks. Ever since i got it though there is a constant ticking that increases frequency with revs. i Swear its lifter tick but the previous owner says that 2 sets of lifters were tried and the noise still persisted. My oil pressure is below 30 at tempurature and idle. Could this be the cause of the problem? I dont think there are any other possibilities other than lifter tick at this point but if so please let me know. I am about to order the extreme engine clean from z1 and try that followed by a mobil 1 oil change with genuine nissan filter. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!!! thanks!

it probably is a lifter tick these cars are notorious for developing them under certain conditions. the thing that i find interesting is lifter ticks dont develop on engines with 10k miles so if it is a lifter tick your going to have to replace the lifters, and cleaning wont help. just my guess.

Thats why i am suspiscous of it being lifter tick, due to the newly rebuilt engine. but he said it ticked ever since it was rebuilt which is no good. you can see my confusion.

Get a video of it. Try and get it as close to the sound as possible and rev it while videoing.

Yep, that's lifter tick all right. What most likely happened is the lifter is either clogged or the PO flipped the lifter over while rebuilding and got air in it. Either way, it's probably something the PO did.

Definitely not knock or anything else though. You can try to add a little ATF, run it for about 25 miles hard, and change the oil. People have also had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil.
