well i just recently turned over 1900mi on my V and lately have been noticing a clicking noise similar to that of bad CV axles whenever i engine brake at low speed and take off or reverse at low speed. since it's still under warranty and i haven't modded anything (yet... ) i'm going to take it by the dealer and let them check it out, but i figured i would see if anyone else has experienced similar problems.

doesn't the clicking sound of a bad CV joint only occur during turning?

likely something else...

I believe you're right - clicking while turning is the most common symptom and a "clunk" or vibration during acceleration can also be the result of bad CV joints.

I have a regualr 4 speed Auto, and I get the clicking when I change from Drive to Reverse, it gives a little click, it sounds like when on some cars the AC is on clicking comes out, but the ac is off.

I'm assuming that's just the noise the transmission makes when engaging into Drive. If you are completely stopped, hold down the brake and shift from R to D and hear a "click" then it's probably completely normal.

just went by the dealer today. got oil changed and setup an appointment monday for them to check it out. hopefully it's nothing serious, but it's certainly audible enough to bother me. but then again, i'm pretty neurotic when it comes to something wrong with my vehicles.

Sometimes a bad CV joint will make a click sound while accelerating or braking with the engine, but only when they are REALLY shot. I had a CV joint go bad on my old Mazda Protege and I never changed it. Eventually, it got so bad that I could grab the axle with my hand and there was at least 1 inch of play in the joint when I wiggled it around, and it would make a terrible noise. I doubt that your joints would be that bad already. It could just be some slight play in the joints, but I've never heard it on my V (could be because the CVT never shifts?). Also, it could be some play in the spyder gears of the differential in the transaxle. One time I had a small chip in one of my spyder gears, and when I would let off the gas, it sounded like I was engine braking with a diesel.

Also, I'm just curious... why are you having your oil changed at 1900 miles?

i heard it was a good idea to have the oil changed after the preliminary break-in period. whether its true or not... dunno. but i switched to synthetic/dino blend as i'm a bit partial to Castrol over the Valvoline the dealer uses.

well my issue is that it never did it before (that i noticed) and that it's only at low speed. not while stopped. if i downshift (usually engine braking) at low speed, it'll click once or twice. also when i'm reversing. so i'm pretty sure it's not a normal occurence since it just started recently.

well i took it to the dealer today and they claim that it was "just loose exhaust brackets". so the tech says that he tightened it up and to check back with him in a week. meanwhile, the noise still persists... luckily it's under warranty, but still... i find this lack of making the noise gone disturbing.

That's why I did mine after 700 miles...and again I will do it at 3000 miles.

My SENTRA clicks, also, when letting the clutch out and moving in 1st gear. Nissan had an issue with Quests where the axles clicked because the axle nuts weren't torqued down properly. This only affected the 2004 models (the 1st production run of the car).

yeah. i waited a bit longer, but got it changed. i'm curious as to whether Vs have that same issue, because, to me, the click is coming from the front end on the driver side. which, to me, sounds less like an exhaust issue. have you noticed anything bad stemming from the noise?

Not a thing. Like I said, I've driven the car 2600 or so miles and not one issue.
