Im waiting on a FSM at the moment, but I thought that id ask anyways....

89 240SX. 154,000 miles. Today, Coolant was almost non-existant in the radiator (just filled 2 weeks ago). Has been using 1 qt oil per 1000 miles or so. No timing chain noise still runs even. Slight smoke from exhaust upon throttle. (Slight oil leak on front of engine, too? -not 1qt worth). Going to buy a compression checker tomorrow. Im fearing that the head gasket has developed a small hole and will need to be replaced. (not sure, just a fear). I havent checked the oil yet, but I kinda got a "milky" look on the lip of my radiator.

Question (Finally): Is it possible on the KA24E to change the headgasket WITHOUT changing the timing chain? (I read that it is possible on the DE's as long as the chain is zip-tied to the gears. Possible with SOHC's?

BONUS Question ! (hehe): Any average on what it should costs to get the head checked/ shaved? (Im going to probably get it done at a Napa Machine Shop in town... ) I dont want them to "rip me off" or anything....

Thanks! Yall are a lifesaver... a green lifesaver, cause they are usually the best!

I gotta jack this thread, and point out that the pineapple Life Savers are far superior to the green. :D

Unless of course you start talking about those tropical Life Savers, that's a whole different story that I'm not even going to get into.

get a coolant pressure tester,or loan one from autozone. put pressure on the cooling system and see if you can see it leaking somewhere.
