This has been happening to me since I bought the car. It just smells like gasoline on the driver side by the door. Not inside the car though. Sometimes in the engine bay. I looked it up before and someone said, "On a cold day, tighten all the fuel line clamps and then heat up the engine and see if it went away." I did... it didn't help. This morning, when I primed my engine, I smelt gasoline and the fuel pump maybe it's noise but underneath the car it maybe a horrible sound like a broken power steering pump. I tried to make it sound again but it was already primed and i was in a rush. I always get bad gas milage and I think the smell from the engine is my injector seals. They're shot. I dont care about the engine because i'm swapping it for another engine i have but I'm not swapping the fuel lines so I should probably fix them. Any ideas? Is there a tester I could put on?

unfortunately the only tool we have is our nose for detecting leaks.. well i suppose our eyes too..

i found this online, it was helpful when finding where my fuel leak was.

Depends which side of the door you are talking about. If it's the front of the door by the hood, then check your fuel lines coming into the fuel filter and the return hoses. If you follow the fuel line from the filter toward the gas tank, you will see 2 hoses. One from the metal line to the fuel filter and another one at the other end of the metal line connecting to the line coming from the fuel tank. You will see the same thing for the return line. Check all of those clamps and check the hoses for cracks.

If it's at the backside of the door, then check the fuel tank, fill hose and breather.

Man mine does the same thing. Start it, in about 2 seconds it smells like gas, but u can only smell it outside the car. on either side and front of the car. I just got it 2 weeks ago and drove it home 115 highway miles. it was almost on Empty when I test drove it. When I first got to the guys house, we started the car and let it run, then unloaded my bike out of the truck. Didnt smell anything unusual, was also outside. Test drove it. I romped on it once, dumped it at 5grand, it was awsome. Let it set and idle for bout another 10 minutes. Put $20 in gas, gave me 3/4 tank, drove home the 115 miles, used half tank, SEEMS TO BE WAY TO MUCH. Now it has the gas smell. Thowing code 13, coolent temp, supposed to have a check engine light and does not. I checked the o2's and they do not flash at a constand interval, left or right. and put the ecu back in mode 1 and had a check engine light, tapped the gas and it went off, dropped back down to idle and came back on, and so on. Shut the car off. Turned it back on, which should still be mode 1, and no check engine light.

Are you thowing a code?

I Tested my fuel injectors to see if they are all working properly and they are, i also changed all the injector plugs because well, i broke a few ... anyway, i tightened up the hoses under the FPR and the Fuel Damper. I think the smell is from under the car because Where I live, theres A LOT of bumps and i scrape the bottom of my car all the time... the plastic guard ripped off on the pass side but i think thats the break lines. I'm going to wait and see if those hoses fixed it, if not, im goin under. Thanks for that Diagram too.

There is a set of rubber hoses at the bottom of the frame rail just below the brake master. You may want to check those to make sure they are tight or not cracked.

it is under the driver side. I smelt it yesterday when I was putting new exhaust gaskets in. I was just too pissed off to fix the fuel lines... Do they make anything other than Rubber lines? I know they have steel braid but ive only seen them for the engine bay
