just replaced the compressor with the one from my parts car, pretty sure its fine, and put a new drier on my car. i let my dad charge it because it was his freon and im thinking he may have put to much liquid in on the high side after pulling the vacuum, because the gauges were reading ok, then they started fluttering all of a sudden like the compressor was trying to pump all liquid almost or something like that. when i left work and got back to my house, i put my gauges on it and let as much liquid out as i could get out, and just charged it with gas, the low side is operating just like it should, going down rapidly when the compressor engages, and slowly going up when i turn it off. the high side however is staying in one place consistently no matter if the compressor is on off, whatever. is it the expansion valve, and would i be ok using the expansion valve off my parts car as long as i check it and blow it out first?

-sorry for the long winded post :-p
