Hello all:

Lately my sohc car has been giving out a splhalalala (hard to put in word) during low rpm in 1st and 2nd gear esp if goin up an incline. But it won't make the sound if reving in neutral.

It's not knocking, and sounds more like some air is coming out (or a loss of compression of some sort).

Otherwise the engine runs fine, I just get an ECU code 41 (which no one seems to know what it is).

Just wondering if this can be an exhaust leak, or would an exh leak be worse as rpms go up ?

Thanks in advance.

you can usually hear exhaust leaks pretty good when your standing next to your car and its idling ...or just lay down and try to get closer to listen

Have you done a compression and leakdown test to test your theory of low compression?

If you have low compression you will notice it, the car will drive like **** and the motor will have little if any power.

If it sounds like an exhast leak, then it most likely is, just have a buddy sit at the back of your car with something over the tailpipe (towel/hand, dont burn yourself) and you go through the entire exhaust system. simple

if that hasn't fixed your problem, you obivously have to look elsewhere. And I can't re-produce that sound the way you typed it, so I have no futher advice, though if i get a change i will look up the trouble code for you. That may have the explaination for you right there.

Good luck

Just wanted to thank you guys for the input. The problem went away on its own.... I think it might of have been the injector cleaner.
