First off I would like to say that all of the cars on here that I have seen are awesome. Even the stock ones.

Anyway, I have always been a fan of the 240 and am finally at the point where I think I could pick one up. I have found a 95 s14 with 107,000 miles on it. I'm wondering how much longer the KA will hold up. I don't need it to hold up forever because I would like to eventually stick a sr20 in it, but it would still need to last a little while. It is basically stock, and is said to be in excellent condition. For $4,900 is this a good buy?

Also if anyone has a sound or video clip of the apexi N1 dual exhaust on their 240 would you please post it. My friend has that exhaust on his rx-7 and it sounds amazing, but I would like to hear it on a KA instead of a rotary.

Thanks for any infoRob

welcome dude, 107k is nothing for the KA they'd run easlity with maintainace in 200k range, i pesonally wold pay up to 4500 for a s14 with that many miles stock if it is se,( 5lug)and is 5 speed. most ppl are ask outragouse prices for thier 240's rx 7' ae86's blah blah now a days, due to the whole drift bandwagon. have fun ,

In my experience, th KA is pretty much bulletproof. Mine has 238,000 miles on it, of which I am responsible for about 95,000. I've never had to do anything to it other than basic maintenance (oil changes, plugs, rotor, wires, you know the drill...), replacing a couple of water pumps, and pulling the valve cover to remove that damned break-away timing chain retainer. Oh, and I used this car to fly the pie for 3.5 years, which is just about as abusive as you can be to an engine and drivetrain.

IOW, your prospective 107K engine is probably going to last a good long while, as long as it is reasonably well cared for.

The KA will last a while, even turboed. Don't jump ship right away you may want to research first.

Trust me I know all about the search button and all it brings up are pictures of the exhaust, but no sound clips.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I am going to go and test drive the car this weekend, and if it is anything like I hope it will be I think I will be purchasing it. Next problem is selling my Mercury Mistake.

Mind you, this is with an intake and header installed. On an otherwise stock KA, it may be a little different.

I didn't mean to give you sh1t about searching. I just know that there are sound clips hovering around here. Btw, I tried searching and couldn't come up with it myself.

Awesome, thanks masticating cow, those clips sounded great.

By the way I also just found that the 240 is the SE version and does have the 5 hole rims. Only downside is that it is an Automatic. But that will do for now, besides if I ever do go sr20 or rb20 I'll be able to throw a manual in at that time.

Thanks a lot guys, hopefully I'll be reporting back soon with good news.

That's weak. Telling a n00b to search when you can't do it yourself. LOL. Anyway, try looking in the archived content next time.

Where is the archived section, I don't think I have seen that on here yet.

And as for being a noob, I have actually been a member of this forum under a different name for about two years now. The problem is that once I finally had a question to ask and wanted to post something, I forgot my old sign in name. But yes I know all about the search button, as it is brought up in about 50% of new threads on this forum.

Anyway, not trying to start any fires, just actually have a lot of time on my hands here at work.

Well, perhaps you remember when NICO switched off of the vBulletin software to ZeroForum. When that happened, in order to conserve bandwidth (I guess) the search function was divided into two sections, one being the "Archived Content." To search through it, do exactly what you would do if you to search anyway, but be sure to select the option "Search Archived Content."

Most people who are told to search aren't told this... thus the frustration when a newer member can't find a thread many of the older members just barely remember.

Thats what it sounds like on my SR20 when it was pretty much stock. Just motor, cusco Zero2's, and exhaust. Stock everything else (boost, cams, injectors, a/f ratio, etc)

Y'know, a lot of folks dis the automatic. As the owner of a 5-speed in Southern California, I KNOW how nice a good auto transmission would be. Recently, a friend of mine, who tragically lost his S13 to a curb/tree/median, bought an automatic S14. He was telling me about another advantage to having an auto... Automatic trannies let the engine hold boost between shifts. If you want to drag your car, it's definiately something to consider.

Also, he got his S14, which is VERY clean condition, for like $3800. Automatic LE trim. Hope this helps, and sorry for the threadjack.

From the pics that I have seen so far the engine bay on this car and the interior are spotless, the body is also in pretty good shape. The only body problem on it is the front bumper has some scratches on it which look like they are from pulling to far into a parking spot and hitting the wheel stops.

Anybody know how well these handle in the snow. I just moved to lower Michigan, right in the southwest corner, so I'm planing for there to be plenty of snow here. I normaly have no problem with snow, but I've never driven a rear wheel drive car in the snow before.

If you drive respectably and are properly outfitted for the snow, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Just be sure to take snow traction into consideration if and or when you modify your suspension.

I'm on my second 240SX. My first was a 1992 SE Coupe that was killed by a car accident.

I'm currently in a 1993 fastback and loving it.

The KA engine is just about bulletproof. It's cast iron and has a timing chain...not many Japanese cars like that any more!

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Keep the fluids clean, watch your gauges and indicator lights. Change the belts and hoses when they need it.

The KA is perfectly adequate for most people. The sound is a little rough. If you want more, there are ample options for the car with the SR and RB engines that can be done with very little effort. I've been promising myself that when I blow the KA, I'll replace it with an SR20DET. I'm still waiting to blow the KA! With maintenance, the engine simply will not give up!

I'd go for the S14 at that price. Welcome.

As regards the automatic, my current 240SX is automatic and so was my previous one. I honestly feel like the automatic better fits the car. Guys, please don't flame me for that remark. My other car is a 5-speed and I love it, but the manual just felt weird in the 240SX. Somehow, this car seems like a low-riding cruiser. The automatic is also super-good at determining shift points. Don't let the automatic discourage you. Save the 5-speed for the SR20 swap if you do one.

They aren't too bad in the snow. Just drive slow and keep good tires on it. I drove a S14 last winter for a few months. BTW I'm on the Indiana/Michigan state line about 20 miles from you.

well, I went to go and test drive the car and it wasn't quite what I had expected. The shifts of the transmition were really hard and the car jolted a lot when shifting. Other than that the brakes sounded messed up (grinding) and the inside had some rips that weren't visible in the pictures saw. So I didn't buy it. And just to dissapoint me even more I saw a White kouki s14 while I was back home that day. Man was I pissed. Well anyway hopefully I'll find another one for sale for a decent price soon. Thanks for all the info and help.
