Possible dumb MIL question

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I am the one-day owner of a 1995 G20 with 127k.

Today I checked fluids and removed the air filter to inspect it. After replacing the filter and driving on a short trip, the "malfunction indicator light" illuminated upon starting the vehicle again.

Is it possible that somehow when taking out the air filter I disturbed something that might make this MIL come on? If so, can anyone offer suggestions as to what I should try?

Welcome,

First we need to figure out what code it is actually throwing. Yes it is possible you disturbed something or didn't hook the MAF back up correctly.

I simply unhooked the four clamps holding the air filter housing and lifted it out of the way so I could take out the air filter. I did not disconnect any wires or anything else.

I did notice the rubber hose going from the air filter to the throttle body (?) has some cracks in the accordian-like section. I wonder if air could be coming in there.

Is it possible to check the computer code using the info at:

http://www.troublecodes.net/infiniti/

Can a '95 G20 be checked using the "without OBD II" method? I'm not sure what this ECU looks like or where it can be found behind the center console.

Thanks for the help and welcome.

If the cracks allow any air out, that'd be a bad place to have a vac leak. Replace it and see what happens.

I read and reset the CEL using the procedure given elsewhere. The code was;

33 - "heated oxygen sensor"

Does anyone know the significance of this code?

That means your O2 sensor is bad. Replace it.

Well, that sucks after one day of ownership.

Red_Det, forgive my further ignorance but what does "+1 " signify?

How many O2 sensors are there, how much does one cost and anybody know a good parts source?

Thanks for all of the help.

You have two o2 sensors. One on the exhaust manifold, the other is located in the catalytic convertor.

You could look up the code in an FSM (link in my sig), though the code reader should say, and figure out which O2 needs replacement.
