I was doing a visual inspection around my car when I noticed a weird distortion in the black door trim on my rear passenger side door. I noticed these twisting distortion marks forming in what I thought was a solid piece of plastic trim. It's about two inches long and quickly noticeable when approaching the door. Touching it, it seems to be able to deform again leading me to believe this is some type of vinyl coating on the trim piece.

I haven't done anything to this door and use it the least out of all the doors. The only thing I've done recently is install WeatherTech side window deflectors but I doubt it would have any effect on this portion of the door, since it's not adjacent to the window and closer to the lower trim of the glass.

Anyone else seen something like this before? Is this a manufacturer defect I should bring back to the dealer to check out?

I have a 2nd gen and don't have that around the trim. Take it back to the dealer.

My 2014 Pathfinder is doing that. They simply took a nylon/plastic tool and smoothed it down. Now it is doing that all over again. Time to take it back to the dealer, even though we are past our first 12,000 mi. Hopefully they will make it right as it was reported prior to the Fit/Finish warranty expiring.

its a vinyl overlay. it simply wasnt installed correctly, or heat for some reason make it come back up. its common for anyone who has done any sort of vinyl work on cars. take it back, and ask for it to replaced/repair correctly. odds are all they will do is take a heat gun, lay it down, and hope it stays.

I finally went in for my last complimentary service at my dealer today and notified them of the defect. The said they never saw such a defect before on the vinyl trim but said they would cover the replacement of it under warranty. They had found the vinyl pieces in stock but said I would need to leave the car for a overnight because it had to go to the body shop to have several pieces of the door removed for clear access to replace the vinyl trim. Since I need my car this weekend, I'm going to go back next week and leave my car with them so it can get fixed. Hopefully all will be well by next week.

Forgot to mention that the part numbers they listed to be replaced are 82812-4BA0A and 82813-4BA0A "Tape-Rear Door RH/LH"

My dealer service to fix the door trim become a lovely clusterf*%k this evening. My dealer service center took in my car overnight to fix it but called me next day saying they'd need it for an extra day because the mechanic messed up the installation. Went to go pick up my car tonight and found out they misplaced my keys. After nearly an hour where they tried to reprogram my car and make a new key, they finally found it misplaced in some other car on the lot. But when they were futzing around with my gear shifter while trying to move my car, they ended up gouging the shift knob with their tools. Now I have to go back to get another part replaced...just a ridiculously frustrating experience trying to get a basic repair done.

I have the same defect on my 2015 Rogue. It doesn't bother me so I'm gonna leave it alone unless it gets worse.
