I own a 3.5SE Altima 2008, it has about 53000 miles on it now.

I've been noticing that when i am at a full stop and go to step on the gas in "D", the car doesnt seem to have alot of power, the rpm will go up to about 1500-2000, then drop down to 1100-1200 and it sort of seems like the transmission is slipping, and when i put my foot down to the floor the car doesnt seem to rev above 3000RPM, i've only tried flooring it once, if there was a problem with it i didnt want to keep doing it and making the problem worse.

When i use manual mode the car drives fine, it seems from a stop when i use manual mode the car has more power and an easier time getting up to speed but when in Auto mode it seems to kind of drag. Could this be a possible tranmission problem? I know i've heard alot of people say that the CVT just isn't that powerful from a deadstop.

I haven't had that issue. Yesterday I braked really hard to avoid hitting something and I had a similar problem when trying to take off again. I had to put it into manual for a while. But when I picked up from a dead stop again, it was fine. I hope mine was just a one time thing. At least you have the option of driving in manual. Good luck with your situation.

I have had a similar issue. This usually happens when I get on a freeway off ramp and get stopped at the light. So i'm going from 70ish mph then slowing to a complete stop and my rpm drop under 1100 and the car stalls. This has happened about three times within two years. I took it to the dealership the first time it happened, they popped my hood, saw my K&N intake and said "oh well that's probably your problem right there...but we'll test it on the computer anyway..." Yeah...I'm sure they did , they found nothing and said it's probably my aftermarket intake. It happened twice after that so a couple of months ago I took it to a mechanic for another issue, and asked him about it stalling. He said it could be the throttle, he cleaned it a bit & said to come back on my next oil change and he'll check it out more closely. My next oil change is in 2 weeks, so I'll take it to him & see if he can fix the issue. BTW, I also have 2008 coupe, 2.5S though.

for the OP, i have a friend that had your same problem. He said his car couldn't rev over 3000 and that it just sounded like a supercharger winding. He took it to the dealership 4 times before they admitted something was wrong with the car. They had to drop in a new transmission after only 33,000 miles.

I've also had this problem happen. I almost hit a dog but luckily came to a complete stop. When went to take off, it lagged it until about 15-20mph....i think this was just the brakes, nothing transmission related because this has happened to me before.

CVT has an extended warranty now, I would go to dealer and have them check it out.

yeah i guess ill just take it up with the dealer, i have an oil change coming up anyways and the only thing i have done to my car is put in an aftermarket headunit so they cant give me any crap about voiding the warranty.

My car currently at 34,500 is kinda experimenting same problem recently.. from dead stop to slow accelerate.. the rpm will go from say 800-1000 (idle at D) to around 2000-2500 rpm then all sudden back down to 1000-1500 rpm (while foot is down on gas still, not all the way) after a split second the rpm will rev up to normal 2500-3500 slow acceleration range. Not sure if this is what the OP is experimenting. If it is, then i will probably need to take the car to dealer and have them look at it.. btw will the dealer point the problem to my aftermarket header, exhaust, and intake and potentially void the warranty on something? just curious
