Whats up all. So I may be going to check out a 90 240 fastback with 150k in the engine. I know that it has a tien drift specific coil overs and a vlsd. Aside from it being an lsd I dont know anything about the v. It also has a few other minor mods to it. Well anyway while im a fan of 240 i dont know too much about them. So can anyone help me out and tell me what I should look out for? What are some signs that I should look for that would tell me not to buy it or that sort of thing. Thanks!!!!

Hmm. Ok. Will do. How about the engine? Anything go particularly foul with an engine that has 150k on it?

It really depends on how bad the rust is i mean if its only a little and its easy to get to ide say go for it....And as for the motor...Make sure its well taken care of...and see if he/she has all the paper work or most of the paperwork for anything done to it...When i bought mine i got a 3inch folder of documents eversince the little oldlady bought it in 1991 to when she sold it to me...( i love little old ladies lol my car only has 139k on it ) How much does the guy want for the 240?

Well hes asking for 3300. Is that a good price? It has some extras in it. At least according to the add online.

Wow, you really need to do some homework! But to answer your question, no,sr20det will never pass smog in cali.

We are going to need more info about the car, what's the ad say?

Like the people above said...try to look at everything and never look at a car at night you are going to buy. If possible bring some who knows about car mechanically. And when you go for a test drive, TEST everything! Every option in the car, and then do your negotiating.

Good luck and don't be in a rush just to own a 240sx. Be patient.

im pretty sure everything is illegal in california >.<lol if the numbers dont match up it wont pass smog i heard about a few ways to pass it legaly like hooking up a propane tank to the gas then since its enviromentaly better they let u pass or something but its not as easy as just plugging a tank on lol best to find a good friend who owns a smog place if u know what i mean but then again i dont know much

I know. Im trying to do all the homework i can. I knew the sr20 isnt legal. I was just wondering if anything has changed for any reason. But these are the extras. TEIN HE Drift Spec Coilovers w/ spanner wrenchesFront and Rear strut barsVLSD (limited slip differential)Relocated battery to the trunk (battery is BRAND NEW, less than 2 weeks old)Aluminum intake pipeCenterforce Racing clutchWalbro Fuel PumpJDM gauge clusterWheel locks

It all sounds cool. I dont want a 240 just to have one. Its just the only other car that I feel would be fun to have and still be reliable. At least that peaks my interest.

chances are, it was beat on. just saying, it's a good possibility. first off, it's a 1990. not worth 3300.
Linguo415 wrote:TEIN HE Drift Spec Coilovers w/ spanner wrenches
cool, but how about the stress that those coils added to the other suspension components? is it slammed? arms are probably stressed out, stock bushings are probably still there, tires are probably wearing unevenly.
Linguo415 wrote:Front and Rear strut bars
unless he just wanted the cool points, just more proof that the car was driven hard.
Linguo415 wrote:VLSD (limited slip differential)
the "v" is for "viscous". as the fluid heats up, it engages the lsd action. it will eventually wear out if it hasn't already. jack up the rear, spin one wheel by hand. if the other wheel spins in the same direction, it's a vlsd. if it spins in the opposite direction, the seller is full of s*** and you should promptly c*** slap him.
Linguo415 wrote:Relocated battery to the trunk (battery is BRAND NEW, less than 2 weeks old)
is the battery properly contained in a proper battery box? how well was the wiring run? is it setup with proper fuses? if the answer is no to any of those, step away. piss poor wiring, especially battery wiring, is dangerous.
Linguo415 wrote:Aluminum intake pipe
probably a $20 ebay special. the plastic intake pipe is better at deterring heat.
Linguo415 wrote:Centerforce Racing clutch
probably needed a stronger clutch for clutch kicking, bad technique, heel toeing, etc.
Linguo415 wrote:Walbro Fuel Pump
doubtful. it's a useless upgrade with a stock engine.
Linguo415 wrote:JDM gauge cluster
great, now you know how fast you would be driving if you were in japan. unless you're really good and fast with math, it's going to be annoying for a while reading kph instead of mph.
Linguo415 wrote:Wheel locks
unless they're some badass wheels and/or you live in an area where wheels are stolen on a daily basis, i find wheel locks to be more annoying than anything.

if i were you, i'd pass for something closer to stock so that i know what has been done, and what hasn't, then i could go ahead and do it the correct way. fixing someone else's mess is annoying. if you want it bad enough, get it, i'm just trying to give you a non-jaded opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Thats a lot to consider. Thanks for the advise. Much appreciated. I figured its been beat on at least a little. I asked the owner if hes ever drifted in it. He said no and niether did the previous owner. But whatever I dont think I would tell anyone how much Ive pounded on a machine im selling either. Sounds more and more like I should pass on it. Im going to check it out on sunday. I wont take any cash with me tho.

at the very least do that. i have paper work for everything that i bought for my car. well not the things that i bought off of nico from other members, but everything that i bought new from a business, i have paperwork for. hell, i think i even kept receipts for oil and filters. check it out thoroughly. it could be a decent car, but definitely talk him down from 3300. that's a lot.

Who cares if its on doughnuts...get new wheels and tires....rather have something with lower miles that will last longer than something that wont...
